I've had 8500 x50 for about a year.. and just hardwired it to the map lights (auto dimming mirror line), but ever since it's been showing laser everytime I acclerated hard. Should I hardwire it to somewhere else? Anyone else has the same problems?

This is a known issue with some detectors, not just the Passport. Previously Valentine had a problem with their power adapters that had insufficient filtering and would produce the same symptom.
Are you sure you tapped the power from the correct line? There are two wires in the mirror harness that will provide 12V, but one of them is actually connected to the reverse light circuit and should not be used to power a detector. You can tell which wire this is because the voltage will go away when the car is in reverse. The correct 12V accessory line will have 12V whenever the key is on.
If you have it wired correctly and are still having this problem, try contacting Escort as they may have a fix such as an updated power adapter.

I had the Escort 8500 X50 wired into the mirror light (red on yellow wire to the red RJ45 wire and the Brown wire to the Green RJ45 wire) of my 04 WRX so it would turn on/off with the car. After 6 months or so the same false signals started happing to me. After about a year it was no longer just hard acceleration that set the thing off. It seemed to start going off randomly. I have used the X50 in a number of cars including hardwired on my 06 WRX and with the cigarette adapter on my wife’s 06 Impeza and the laser just seems to go off randomly. I used it in my friends SUV and the horn would set it off (scared the **** out of him the first time).
I have talked to Escort a number of times and their stance is "It's the cars fault, send the unit in with 45 dollars and we will place a piece of foil over the detector to lessen the sensitivity". Seeing how I don’t want to give Escort another dime of my money, I have laser turned off on the unit. If your unit is less than one year old I think it’s free. The X50 has paid for it self in the number of tickets it has saved me from getting. I’m waiting for the unit to break or get stolen so I can get the Valentine. I’ve tested a Valentine in my car and it works perfectly. For anyone that has not bought a radar detector yet, borrow someone’s unit and test thoroughly before you buy.
If anyone from Escort is reading this… I’ve tried to work with you. Learn how to take care of your customers and switch out or fix (not dumb down) these lemon units for free. It’s costing you money. How do I know this… I’ve steered a number of people away from your unit by lending them mine with laser turned on.

Mulder,
Were where you yesterday when I was rewiring this in my new car?

Note to anyone installing. The Red on Yellow wire is positive and should go to the Red phone cord wire. The Brown wire has power as long as your not in reverse (Thank you Mulder). The black wire is the correct wire to connect to the green wire on the phone cord wire, which I am now going to go correct.

Well.. I emailed escort and all they could tell me was to tap the wires somewhere else.. Apparently they still have no fix for this.. so Will I be okay if I tap it down at the cigarette adapter? Has anyone tapped it anywhere else and been okay? thanks
