I thought just the XT. And the rest have the 4.11, but I'm not 100% sure.

most automatic subarus have a 4.444, and the manual trans forester XT also has the 4.444 FD

I got mine from a F-XT. You can get a final drive conversion kit for a few hundred bucks from a performance shop.(like race comp engineering). Auto-non turbo foresters should be 4.44. But I know forsure that FXTs have a 4.44 rear dif.

so most, if not all FXT's have my 4.444. and auto non turbos have 4.444 also. this should be easy then. i wasn't sure how many suby's here had that ratio.
race comp, any others anyone know of?
where is race comp anyway? thanks guys! -keith

your dealership should be able to order you the ring and pinion as well.. IIRC they aren't terribly expensive.

Baja turbo has the 4.44 as well.

i'd hurass Ben @ hodges (I believe his name is hondaslayer on the forum) and have him get you a ring and pinion set. Race comps set is kinda $$$ and all you really need is the Ring and Pinion for the rear dif since your tranny is already 4.44 ready.

At the end of the day if you still can't find a r160 4.44 rear dif, PM me. I'll either get you in contact with someone who can get you one or I will give you one of my spares (I have 3 of them now )

And if you happen to come across a r180 4.44 rear dif, GRAB IT AT ALL COSTS.

i'll take note! and if you run across one give a shout if possible. thanks!

what kind of cash are we talking about when converting all to r180? is that the biggest/burliest sti drivetrain avail. to date? i'd like to invest in something that will last a long time. and in the mean time if you feel like giving up one of your 3 sets i'll look at that. what kind of condition, just curious? thanks again! -keith

The 4:44 R180 is a rare dog. The Ver.5 & 6 came with a plated LSD 4:44 but it requires special axles to use. A few Ver.7 6MT came with 4:44 but I've never actually seen anyone have the matching R180 besides the one I have for my car. ;)

The Price to convert to the R180 is usually between $1500-$2000 with brakes.

There are a lot of 4:44 R160's out there. Forester XT, Some Imprezas, Some Legacys. The Forester one would be the best choice due to the factory LSD.

Are those the funny axles for the platted LSD?

<-- could make you a jdm R160 w/ plated LSD to work with those "funny" axles:D

I am not positive - I do not know the exact history of the trans and rear differential they came with. here is what I do know:

Transmission came from a polish rallyist, came with the engine swap he put in his rally car.

I was told at the time it was from a 2001 STi Limited and had front LSD as well as the "heavy" 20Kgf-m/100rpm center differential and stiff rear differential, i believe it is 50kgf-m/100rpm, and a 4.444 FD.

The transmission apears to be older than 2001, as it has the older "four bolt" bellhousing, but has the helical front LSD.

my math shows that i do have a 4.444 FD, and gear ratios approximately in line with a v5-ish STi RA - i say this based upon observing my RPM at various speeds in various gears.

I was told that the rear differential would only work with that "funny" passenger side axle - the driver side looks just like my stock axles, and the USDM WRX axle shown in that picture.

I'm looking (not hard, as I'm broke...) for a trans case from a turbo car, and a R160 rear diff to use as spares, for when (not if...) i lunch these parts ;)

Safir- If you need a WRX trans case let me know, I have a spare. If you'd like a few RS/L (push style clutch) front cases let me know, I'll give them away.
