I had a radiator hose break over the Christmas holidays and all the fluid drained out. In the mean time, I put on a temporary hose and filled my cooling system with water. I just got the new hose from Subaru the other day, so now I need to drain out the water and replace it with antifreeze. What I need to know is how do I drain my cooling system. Any help would be appreciated.

On the bottom of the radiator is a bolt (usually looks like a wingnut) that you unscrew to drain out the coolant.

Be careful, it's plastic and can break if too much force is applied. And, they do tend to get stuck after a while. If it doesn't open easily don't lean on it. It may help to remove the plastic lower cover and access it from below, just be careful that a stream of coolant doesn't burst out and get you in the eye.
If it's really stuck an alternative is to remove the lower radiator hose and drain it that way. More messy and harder to control though, so be sure to have the drain pan ready.

...And when you pour in the coolant, pour it slowly to prevent air bubbles.

I'll probably just remove the lower rad hose than risk breaking something. Thanks for all the good tips.

I found it much easier to just let the dealer do it. The neighbors get pissy when I let the coolant just run down the storm drain.
make sure to use the right type of coolant and also add the scooby coolant additive.
