I was thinking about the differences in engine design (specifically oiling systems) and was referred to this:

http://www.engin.umd.umich.edu./research/undergraduate/reports/REUReport3-ConRodLubeFlow-2004.doc.pdf

Not enough data points in my book, but it does spark a few thoughts:

-In relation to the combustion cycle, when is the EJ257 rod getting its oil? How does this relate to the much-praised JDM v8?

-Obviously, the 17* con rod angle @ 90* ATDC is not even close to ideal. Where is the oil feed in relation to this?

-Anyone have the 3.3L Porsche oiling system schematic/details? ;)

Discuss?

When I was talking to Ron about his modifications to the crank oiling that he does, he said that it was second hole designed to feed oil into the con rod bearing space 20 degrees BTDC. The mod is based off of a Subaru Spec C crank design. You'd have to ask him for more detail. This is just what I remember. He has those cranks spinning pretty fast in some of his racing engines. It's hard to prove the merit of the mod as I just don't know many people who have experience with both types of cranks under severe and high rev situations.
