View Full Version : Injen Intake w/ Turbo XS BOV
mitch808 09-13-2001, 09:48 PM I just purchased these two items listed in the title and after reading some of the threads here, I think I may have done a bad thing.
One guy said that after adding the intake you could hear the turbo spoolup and the stock BOV better. But this TurboCS BOV is made to be loud. Supposedly up to 110db!
What do you guys think? Am I going to get irritated with this setup? I kind of wanted a sleeper/semi-quiet car.
mitch808 09-14-2001, 06:57 PM Anyone?
Frank 09-15-2001, 02:45 PM in my opinion the Injen intake is not a good choice for the WRX. I know i know, i am totally biased. But the laws of physics aren't wrong and i think the universal fitment and long straw like design aren't optimal for the WRx. Again this just my totally biased opinion about another vendor's product. But hey, you asked.
Thanks,
Frank
supermarkus 09-15-2001, 03:13 PM Loud BOV certainly won't make your car a sleeper, if anything they'll draw lots of attention to your car. Also, ask adam99rs what he thinks of aftermarket intakes on turbo cars. Or do a search with his name and you'll find a long thread about the value of the intakes that have come along so far.
After snooping around some, I think Frank's intake makes the most economical sense. You don't really need to get a BOV if you want yours to be heard with Frank's kit and you get a really good panel filter. Plus if you're shooting for a sleeper, Frank's kit looks almost dead stock.
Also, if you check out the current issue of SCC, some of the cars in that shootout had stock air boxes and still managed to pull around 200 hp to the wheels. What TCG offers is improved flow through your stock airbox at a much lower price than the "CAI" kits.
gossamer_monster 09-15-2001, 09:41 PM Well I have the TXS BOV and the intake silencer mod.
I like both. The BOV is just loud enough to hear over my MKIII exhaust. ;)
I don`t think its 110db though. Even venting at 16 psi it really isn`t that bad. IMHO.
You can always install it and see what you think.
Adding the intake won`t make the BOV louder if that was what you were asking. Sitting in the car you will hear the BOV vent in front of you and the turbo spooling to the front right side.

jigga 09-19-2001, 10:21 PM I have the injen air intake in my wrx, and I have to tell you that it sorta heightens all of the sounds that the engine makes. I did not really notice the car get louder, but what I did notice was that I could very clearly hear the turbo when it spooled up ( now that is an addictive sound!!) and also that of the BOV sound when I changed gears. Now I am not sure whether bystanders could hear any of this, but inside the car, it is all very noticeable. The stock BOV is not all that loud, but it is noticeable... Hope this helps some!
mitch808 09-19-2001, 10:31 PM Thanks Jigga for the info, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. I guess I'll live with a nice turbo sound and a loud BOV! :D

How long have you had the injen cai installed? Any CEL's?
I would like to get one.
Captain Art 07-14-2003, 11:31 PM I have had the injen intake on my car for over 1 year with a hks ssq & a cat back exhaust. So far no problems and no cells.
Car runs really well except for the hks ssq that stopped working after about 6 months of use and it took about 4 month for it to be repaired.
asianboy101 10-31-2003, 11:43 AM what happened to your hks? what broke?
blkwrx04 12-23-2003, 04:20 PM i bought the injen intake recently along w/ hks carbon-ti exhaust. im putting them in on friday. i also have a greddy type-s BOV w/ the recirc kit. im just gonna plug the hose tho so it'll vent atmospherically and then im guessing my car will be pretty loud. anyone else have any experiences w/ these parts?
blkwrx04 12-28-2003, 01:29 AM i put on the intake and the exhaust yesterday, but was not up to plugging the hose, long day u kno... but the intake definatley made my greddy type-s BOV sound louder. im still gonna plug it cuz i wanna hear it even more, but im definately happy w/ it right now.

I have had the Injen CAI on my car for over a year. Haven't had one problem with it. Didn't do anything for performance but it sounds really good.
blkwrx04 05-04-2004, 12:52 PM talk about bringing back an old thread, i posted 5 months ago here.
kochj23 05-04-2004, 12:55 PM haha, sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention and didn't notice how dead the thread was. :)

Hey kochj23 where about in Burbank are u from?
I'm from Burbank too. I got an RS 2.5 Impreza 2001. Black in color and has a JDM tail lights. I got an Injen Cold Air Intake and a 3" catback Nur Spec Blitz Exhaust System and I tell u, I enjoy the sound and the power. Hope to meet you here in Burbank, Ca.
thehollowrift 06-16-2005, 09:18 PM I cannot vouch for others but using the Injen CAI specific for the 04 STi + the TurboXS BOV do not cause any problems. Few points worth mentioning - I have the TurboXS Turboback exhaust w/ uppipe also installed along with the intake and bov. The exhaust and intake compliment each other greatly. I wouldn't bother with a CAI unless you had some exhaust or a FMIC. Don't waste your cash on a CAI if you plan on doing a front mount soon. I however am not planning on the front mount until later down the road. This particular intake does make a "sucking" sound when your getting on the accelerator a little bit. I like it personally, not something to detract from the quality of this product. I don't know dyno numbers but this intake does add a little more pep and it looks great too!!!! I have the polished CAI but if you wanted to drop a little more cash go buy the limited edition STi wrinkle red version = very cool. Hope this helps
