Volkswagen has publicly confirmed plans to build an upscale Passat with sleek coupe-like styling, but there's no need to wait for the 2008 models to see one - we have an artist's interpretation right here.

Volkswagen is planning to jump right in and take advantage of the popularity of the Mercedes CLS styling, and will offer their own German-built four-door coupe/sedan, codenamed "CC" at a far lower price.

The Passat Coupe isn't expected to be shown until the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, but details are already trickling out. Sources are telling us that the base engine on the coupe will be a four-cylinder with 150 horsepower; the top-of-the-line offerings will include a 280-horsepower 3.6-liter VR6 engine, and a 400-horsepower R36 turbocharged version. Hybrid versions are expected to follow shortly after the initial introduction.

The Passat coupe will be available with front-wheel drive or with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

Once again, VW makes a nice looking high-end car that will flop in the marketplace. They already have AUDI to handle the higher-end market, I think VW's fascination with the luxury market is going to cost them dearly.

Would you buy it if it cost $40+k??

With the cost of the regular Passat sedan easily pushing into the upper $30k range , I would fully expect this coupe to be even more expensive when full equiped. You are in some reallly competitive segment and up against some rreally nice cars at that price.

its a photoshop, and the real version better be a lot more different than the passat 'sedan'.

It is a photochop... but then again, I am not sure why some people use that term like it is a bad thing - every image published in magazines or online for the last 5+ years has had some editted work done to it in Photoshop.

It looks like they probably based these images on spy shots of the real car (probably disquised), and they combined it with peices/parts from photos of the current Passat sedan.

The new Passat looks very good. No wonder that "artist interpretation" also looks classy.

VW needs to get their pricing straight though. The Jetta is totally pricing itself out of the small car market, and the Passat is expensive enough to eat into the Audi territory.

not a bad thing, just pointing out that people shouldn't rely on the accuracy of any independant freelance images.
