How many members here buy 4 new tires when it's time for new treads and how many only buy two? How many of those that only buy two,put those new tires on the front? After all, don't the front ones wear out first? If you're like me,you seldom rotate tires since they wear out so fast anyway. And if only the front ones are worn, why replace all four when only the front ones need to be replaced? Just put those two new tires on the front, and the next time you need tires, you can then replace all four.
If you are following this method of changing tires,STOP!! If your front tires need replacing and your rears are in good shape yet,put the new tires on the rear and move the old rear ones to the front.Trust me,it can make a big difference!
Over the years I've totaled two cars, one a Nisson 2000SX(rear wheel drive) and a Plymouth Laser(front wheel drive). In both cases I had older tires on the rear and brand new ones on the front. Also in both cases the rear wheels lost traction cornering and tried to pass the front end!The Nisson rolled over a few times before ending upside down in a ditch and the Laser went rear-end first into a dirt bank and the about 100 feet sideways down a guardrail. These two accidents occured about two weeks after putting on the new front tires.
It was a hard lesson to learn and now I rotate my tires(not as often as I should probably),but when I need new tires now I buy four new matching ones. However,if you can only afford to replace two tires at a time,ALWAYS put the new ones on the rear! It just might save your life! ;)
