GM of Canada today announced pricing for one of three new vehicles being released in 2007.

The bold new Sky roadster will have a base manufacturer's suggested retail price of $ 31,685.

Keep in mind that this is in Canuck bucks. Still, I think it's a bit on the expensive. Is Saturn doing a premium push or sthg?

that is expensive, comes out to a little under $28k US. i would think that the starting price of it would be around the same as the solstice, which is $20k US

Well, if you equip the Solstice with A/C, the power package (pwr windows, mirrors & locks), LSD, and Leather, ABS and a basic CD-radio it comes to $24k. The $20k Solstice is very barebones.

The $20k base Miata comes with most of those features standard.. except the LSD (starts at $23.5 for Sport package).

If you don't count the rebates and discounts that will eventually show up, the Solstice isn't a very good deal either, unless you're looking for a barebones track car.

Anyone else find it funny that it's still called a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for a no-haggle car company? :)

Does Saturn still have their no-haggle policy? Also, I believe that one of GM's new strategy is to lower all MSRP's so less incentives are needed to sell the car. Whether it's been implemented now I'm not sure. But yes, I do think the price is too high.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the well-equipped 2007 Sky starts at $23,690 for models with a 5-speed manual transmission, and $24,540 with an optional 5-speed automatic. (Both MSRPs include a $575 destination charge.)

The Sky, available this spring, is the first vehicle to feature a new look that will inspire the design of future Saturn products. The roadster will be followed this summer by the all-new Aura midsize sedan and Outlook midsize crossover utility late in 2006. These vehicles feature the same, dynamic exterior design theme, with inviting, sophisticated interiors.

“The Sky signals a whole new direction for Saturn as we dramatically grow our portfolio,” says Jill Lajdziak, Saturn’s general manager. “It blends the dynamic new design of our vehicles with a strong value proposition in its segment.”

Dynamic Design
The Sky’s exterior features a strong front end that represents the new face of Saturn, with a pronounced fender peak and a bold, chrome bar that carries an integrated Saturn badge. It has a wide, muscular stance with short overhangs and 18-inch wheels pushed to the corners for a true sports car feel. The convertible top folds completely into the rear compartment, and the clamshell hood provides excellent accessibility and reinforces the Sky’s sports car character. Halogen projector beam headlamps and foglamps extend the exterior’s sophisticated look.

The design philosophy is carried through to the Sky’s interior, which is driver-focused with integrated controls and displays. Creative use of piano black and chrome finishes combine with available leather seats and technical grains to emphasize richness and precision. Jewel-like detailing on the HVAC and lighting controls is executed with tight fits, highlighting the attention to detail.

Roadster performance
The Sky also has the athletic performance to back up its bold styling. It is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, 177-horsepower Ecotec engine with variable valve timing and a five-speed Aisin manual transmission with a short throw shifter. An available limited slip differential decreases potential wheel slippage, increasing the Sky’s performance potential ever further.

Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and dynamic rear proportioning

God I love this car... and for $23k (USD) that is a steal.

I think GM said that the Sky would be a much better equipped than the Solstice, so it's base price is higher than the Solstice, but comes with more stuff. For me, it's not even a question - more than willing to drop a few extra grand to get something that looks that sexy.

But I'm with you, that's one sexy beast, you can really see the Opel in it, and that's not a bad thing. It actully looks better then it's cousin (performance is another thing, but we won't go there yet seen how it's not on the market quite yet)

Anyone know if the Sky or Solstice have aluminum hoods??

I actually hope they don't - which would mean that if/when aftermarket hoods come out, you could save a good chunk of weight from doing a hood swap.

Power to weight ratio on that car has much suck. They're going to need a turbo on that thing. Looks wise, it's hard to beat though.

It's really a shame they decided to put the Engine in the front.

If they had just imported the VX220, I'd be all over it.

Roadsters aren't supposed to be about power. As is.. 177hp for <3000lbs is enough to be lots of fun.. just not on a dragstrip. I have no doubts that this will outrun my RS considering the spec sheet. I'm sure a more powerful version will be released eventually.

It's right there in the specs: Composite body panels. If you look at the hood, it opens up clamshell-style like the Vette.

The Sky mini-site claims it has aluminum control arms.. (one reason to get it over the Solstice). :D

GM will be turbocharing the Solstice, so hopefully that will cross over to the Sky. If not, just get the right parts for the job!

I;m just dissapointed that the trunk is so useless in the Solstice. If that is not fixed for the Sky, then the Miata will still rule as it is more useful. I realize these are minimalist cars, but it's be nice to go away for a weekend.

I don't see where that would make too much sense, as it seems that would compete directly with the GXP.

On the bright side, with the news of the GXP supposdly coming in around 250/250 the new MS MX-5s are being reworked to match those numbers ... on a lighter chassis :D

And concerning the V6 idea - that is totaly pointless - GM already showed the engine going into the GXP and thus the Sky Redline edition - it's a turbo'ed 4 W/ direction injection and all the bells and whistles.

sorry, thought he was referring to the G6 GXP. Aside from that the point is that the powerband would start much lower, be more linear, and there is the ability to have more torque with the v6. Its not like this came out my ass. It was in MT a couple months ago. :rolleyes:

No. Inline 4 with dual-scroll turbo FTW. It is the main reason I am considering the car.

if I wanted a torque monster, I would buy a diesel. if there were any worth buying in this country, yet.

260hp/260tq Inline 4 twinscroll turbo with better suspenson/lsd/abs standard. :)

Orders will start sometime in April. Delivery sometime in the Fall/Winter.
