sweet rides, i love the designs of their hatchbacks. the interior is sorta bland tho, but i like that center console idea right below the shifter

that is a HOT hatch..

the A6 reminds me of a chop-top something or another (or a magnum)

Coati, why not just get A3 3.2L Quattro? You want to row your own, or is it the turbo you crave?

Idunno. I somehow have it in my mind that the S3 will be superior in both performance and acoutrements than the A3 6-cyl S-Line. If they are not substantially different, I may rescind my automatic purchase statement.

SOA introducing a Forester-STI or Impreza Wagon STI also automatically negates my intent to purchase an S3.

Amen to that.
I will part out my car as soon as these things hit the dealerships here.

according to the Dealership up here in washington, the only way to get the Quattro is the "S" package. also it comes with the DSG tranny and the 3.2. just what the dealership guy told me.

yeah, the 3.2L is actually called an "S-line" version of the A3 (comes w/sportier suspension, some interior bits, spoilers/ground effects, and DSG std), which you can also get (S-line pkg) on their A4s, and I believe A6s.

The S3 posted at the top is supposedly a "true" S model however (ala S4/S6/S8)...

So... S3 will be 2.0T with < 300HP, and VW R36 will be (according to the rumor) 3.6L ~300HP? And how far apart in pricing?

VW and Audi need to seek a marriage counselor. The lack of communication is killing them by inches.

2.0t will NOT make 270 hp....

2.0t will NOT make 270 hp....

Chipped it will. The 06 A4s chipped do...something around 298hp/276ft.

2.0t will NOT make 270 hp....

I own a 2.0T A4 and on a 91 Octane chip I got 230 hp with 275 ft-lbs of torque. In the summer, Oregon gas is good enough to run the 93 Octane chip which is 241 hp and 292 ft-lbs of torque. This is all with stock exhaust and stock cat. With a full exhaust and test-pipe (in place of the cat-biggest bottleneck) the 2.0T is looking at over 300 ft-lbs of torque on 91 octane alone. This is all without a decent intake/ fuel system/injector upgrades and a front-mount intercooler. It's interesting, the B7 A4's have a dual-intercooler setup placed on the front driver and passenger sides. Some preliminary front mount intercoolers are coming out that require no cutting to make fit right and actually have less tubing than the stock intercooler setup. With time, the 2.0T will make tons of power.

As far as the S3 having 272 hp, I find that easy with a new turbo under the hood, different exhaust, etc. The A4's turbo is tiny, but is still capable of quite a bit of power.

Last I looked the EVO's 2.0L turbo made 286hp/289ft-lb. Not saying the EVO and Audi's 2.0T are the same, but that power can be produced in a production model of that displacement.

different animals.. Europeans dont concentrate on power, they go for finesse, low end torque, etc..
I persoanlly ad 1.8T vw.. tuned by PES-tuning.com.. I know what they are capable of, just dont see a manufacturer liek Audi getting agressive with the engine, unless of course, z350, z4, slk are breathing down it's throat..

I thought you were implying that the 2.0 was not capable of 272, rather than Audi not wanting to produce it, so that was my bad. I think the S3 will have to put out numbers near to that, however, as the S4 puts down 330 hp and 300 ft-lbs of torque. The S3 has to have numbers that will eclipse and stock A3. Going lower than the 270 range puts it near 3.2 territory.

If they squeese close to 300 hp out of a 2.0 liter the lag is going to be horrible.

That first picture is absolutely gorgeous. With the slanted hatch, it almost looks like the old Audi rally cars.

The R36 is still very much a rumor, but a pretty solid bet based on the popularity of the R32.

I thought the R36 was already being sold overseas. Must've been false information.

The MKV R32 is being sold.

There's no confirmation of any R-line Golf for the NA market yet, let alone an R36 (increased displacement). It's likely, though, IMO.
