i have a few questions about this stuff. this is a plastic lining that covers the paint, correct? what would you do about waxing your paint. wouldnt still oxidize after time from bing in the sun? also, does the stuff have a warranty on it? my main concern would be the paint and caring for it. anyone know anything about this?

Dozens - or maybe hundred of us are using the 3M film marketed by Stoneguard, Xpel and several other companies. Wonderful stuff.

It IS removable, as a friend decided that his first attempt could be improved, and we pulled it off easily with just a hair dryer to warm it up. It left the paint underneath pristine! 3M says it is UV resistant, and that the paint underneath will fade just as if it were only waxed. Only time will tell on this. And as many BMW, Mercedes Lexus and such cars are now having this stuff put on, I am quite sure it is a good idea. It sure beats rock chips, ugly "bras", or deflectors.

BTW - if you get the raw material, it's pretty inexpensive..

i just got mine on today, i reccommend having it done profesionally, as did I. It makes the car look a lot better just having it on, i think cause its sooo clean underneath.

and btw i saw the tightest supra at the import place today. red 98 t t, bbs 18 in. rims six speed. finest thing ive seen in a long time

so what is cleaning this stuff like? what are the instructions as far is this goes? i would strongly consider covering the hood, fenders, and front bumper. any ideas on how much a setup like this would cost including install? thanks for all the help guys.

There's nothing to cleaning the stuff, you just wash it like normal - in fact you'll find dirt and bugs just rinse off - they don't "stick" and when you wax the car you wax up to the stuff. If some wax gets on the film - it doesn't matter.

And I really recommend the 40mil thick stuff for the WRX fog lamps. Protected, clear, easy to put on and pretty cheap - about $12 or so for both.

first let me tell you that i am a StonGard retailer, so I may be a little biased.
StonGard is warranteed for as long as you own your car against discoloring, cracking, crazing, etc. You also get a three year protection plan that will cover the cost of repairs (up to $1,000) if your paint is chipped or damaged where StonGard is installed. Keep in mind they wont cover damage that is severe enough to damage the plastic or sheet metal, only paint chips from rocks, bugs, etc. The warranty is only valid if the product is installed by a certified installer. I highly recomend you have it installed by a professional. It's not rocket science, but niether is window tinting, paiting, etc.

totally recommend it, it has not discolored at all

and it makes no difference if you get the body film or the headlight/light protection, both are top quality !

i read you post about the headlights. i am not planning on covering the headlights or foglights, just the painted areas on the front of the coar (ie hood, fenders, etc.). if my headlights get cracked or anything, it gives me a reason to go to my insurance company to get some cash to replace them. then pay the difference for JDM HID headlights :D.

so how much would it cost to purchase the full front end kit minus the headlights and fog lights? how much for the installation which i would rather one of the dealers do.

mikem, i am looking to get my WRX around december, so maybe you could give your mom a little christmas visit. can you answer the above questions for me? thanks.

I don't recommend that you cover the headlights. Since the headlights are made of plastic anyways it would take a really big and strong impact to break them in the first place. Covering the foglamps seems to be ok, since they are made of glass.

I would prefer not to give prices on the board. Price varies depending on how much of the car you want covered, what preparation options you want, and your dealer.
As far as StonGard light damaging your headlights. All cases where I have FIRST HAND knowledge, the lights had higher wattage bulbs installed. however, I do agree that StonGard Light is a bit excessive for polycarbonate lenses. I am attempting to get StonGard approval (warranty coverage) for installing the standard StonGard on lights. This stops the problems with pitting and crazing. If you wish to discuss specific prices for your car call me at 770-478-0937

I run factory bulbs. I'm trying to get in touch with someone at Stongard to help me out here.

I'm sorry for what happened with your lights. Like I said, in cases where I had FIRST HAND knowledge.

Your local dealer should be helping you with StonGard and your warranty. I can assure you, if I installed your light covers and ran into warranty problems with StonGard, I would replace them myself. :)
