View Full Version : 2008 Colorado SS
mh_WRX 01-30-2006, 09:59 AM In the hallowed tradition of SS-badged Chevrolets such as the Chevelle, Camaro, and awesome 1990-93 454 SS Sport Truck, the Colorado SS sets a new benchmark for road-going performance. The Colorado SS launches with 400 horsepower from the 2005 Corvette’s LS2 and then benefits from a complete package of high-performance features.
VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS:
LS2 6.0L V-8 with 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. torque that exhales through a custom-built performance exhaust from the catalyst rearward
Heavy-duty 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission with floor shifter
Heavy-duty 9.5-inch rear axle with a locking differential for added traction and a short 3.73:1 rear axle ratio for rapid acceleration.
Weighing in at under 3,500lbs and with Front disc brakes measuring over 12 inches that are sourced from the full-size Chevrolet Silverado; rear disc brakes from the Chevrolet TrailBlazer; the SS should have no trouble hauling to a stop.
Lowered suspension riding on brushed nickel-plated 20-inch Silverado SS rims
Stylized interior with unique trim, bezels, and seats
Custom exterior package with unique grille, fascias, flares, rocker extensions and tonneau cover.

GM reached back in its musclecar era for this SS hauler. An air-induction system, tailored straight from the '70 SS Chevelle platform, provides cool air from the windscreen. At high speeds, the windscreen will build air pressure at its base. This pressure will help the pistons fill the engine's cylinders through the air induction ducts.

Blitzkrieg 01-30-2006, 11:00 AM Now if they would just add awd, and resurect the long dead cyclone.
BlitZ
Tang 06 i wagon 01-30-2006, 11:04 AM looks pretty neat in a lot of ways... Lots of power for sure...
But I just persobally despise the "slammed truck" concept... the utter futility of a pickup truck that's a few inches off the ground...
junkboxer 01-30-2006, 11:08 AM now that is one hot truck
06WRXTR 01-30-2006, 11:11 AM i'll buy one
Hazdaz 01-30-2006, 11:13 AM Isn't that even more horsepower than the old Ford Lighting?!?
I too think perfomance pickups are a joke, but this one does look pretty bad ass.
How much can this thing possibly go for? I mean the regular Colorado I believe starts at under $20k... so even with the works (including this engine), this shouldn't be much more than $30k. That is a crazy price for anythign with 400 hp. And since it weights in at 3500lbs, it might be faster than the GTO.
teh POD 01-30-2006, 11:23 AM i'd buy one but it's missing a clutch pedal. what the hell is up with car manufacturers making "performance" vehicles that have auto trans?
LastResort 01-30-2006, 11:38 AM i'd buy one but it's missing a clutch pedal. what the hell is up with car manufacturers making "performance" vehicles that have auto trans?
Shifting a truck is like an exercise in touching the Dash and the rear window. :D There is enough time between shifts for a small snack.
AWDPilot 01-30-2006, 11:39 AM Under 3500 lbs ... not bad at all
MudBoogers 01-30-2006, 12:16 PM still a concept though, correct?
mh_WRX 01-30-2006, 01:01 PM I think this a pre-production model.
stArs Inked 01-30-2006, 01:40 PM too bad no AWD and 6-speed... :(
cool truck nonetheless! and yeah, reminds me of the old cyclone days as well!
Davidss 01-30-2006, 02:07 PM i'd buy one but it's missing a clutch pedal. what the hell is up with car manufacturers making "performance" vehicles that have auto trans?
Who needs an automatic when you have all that low end torque!!!
People have been making some serious power with the ls2!!!
H.K. Phooey 01-30-2006, 02:08 PM ugly seats, still runs high 14's amd it's a truck you can't haul anything in but ass.
bigb996 01-30-2006, 02:13 PM to bad its made by GM or it might be a worthwhile car. I would buy the lightning, the new saleen truck, or the srt-10 before that.
TypeC 01-30-2006, 02:41 PM Awesome! If it was a MT I'd be sold.
quentinberg007 01-30-2006, 06:28 PM It is kind of sad that you can get the LS2 in 3 different Chevy trucks/SUVs but only 1 car. I'd personally like to see them revive the Impala SS in a non-FWD-****fest. RWD, LS2, and ~3200 lbs FTW. Oh yeah, PUT A ****ING 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN IT! Right now an Impala SS gets you a 300 hp FWD mated w/ a 4 speed autobox. I'm sure it is running an open differential up there too.

AWDPilot 01-30-2006, 07:08 PM 3 chevy's but you can also get it in the CTS-V, and GTO ...

That's why I said Chevy instead of GM. ;)

Definitely... if GM gets their head out of the 'shade' they'd be selling that Impala SS like hot cakes. Heck, I'd consider one.
turbo tecnica 01-31-2006, 12:37 AM Definitely a cool truck. Always liked the Colorados, and I wondered if this would ever make it into production. Not exactly "practical", but neither are the Lightnings or SRT-10's. It's more of a "transition" truck... for people who had/have fast cars that want a truck but can't fully grasp the 6000lb V8 yet :D
Nice cars (CTS-V), driven a couple of them. Not as fast as the C6 (obviously) but still plenty fast. Definitely something cool about getting in a classy ride, starting it up and feel a rumble under your ass that you don't expect. It's like a GTO in a tuxedo.
EDIT: I was mistaken, d'oh! I see they put the LS2 in the CTS-V's now. I have driven the one with the LS6 in it, but I'm sure it doesn't feel any different than the LS2 version.
SUBE555 01-31-2006, 01:17 AM Kinda makes me wonder why Dodge never mated a decent 5MT or 6MT in the SRT8 charger. I'd think it would make for a more fun car. Then again Daimler has been a big advocate of autos. I'd think about the Charger SRT8 if the interior was a little nicer and it had a decent stick option.
MudBoogers 01-31-2006, 12:48 PM so, to confirm, pre-production for MY07, or MY08?
Beaverboy 01-31-2006, 01:23 PM The thing that turns me off with the Colorado, is that it's bed length options are 'Short', 'Short' and 'Really Short'.
Why does everyone bitch about the "small brakes" on the LGT Spec-B.. but has nothing to say about the 400hp truck's equally "small brakes"??

It's a 400hp truck, it inherently makes no sense whatsoever, so why get upset with details like that.

MY-08

Well, those 400hp could be used to tow something.. until it comes to stopping.

12.1" isn't small, subaru just choose a non performance pad, and rubber lines.
Handsdown 01-31-2006, 03:43 PM i hate trucks but i'd love to have one of those in the garage.
carpeted bed needs to go though. or be an option.
