View Full Version : Noob Question on TurboXS Base Maps

Hey guys, I'm a noob and I have a question concerning the TurboXS Base Maps.

Specifically, my questions concern timing and knock.

With timing, on the base maps for Stg 2 and 3, has TurboXS used setups that leave room for improvement? Or on they on the edge of knock?

And secondly, if a map has too much timing, when should you see knock, ie which gear would you see if first?

The reason I am asking is that I live in the Bahamas, and our gas doesn't have any Octane numbers on the pumps, so I am assuming it is at least 91 octane.

So what I did was remove 3 degrees of timing from the TurboXS Maps which should make the tuning good for 90-91 octane (I Believe). With this setup, I didn't have any knock events logged.

But I had the Base Stg2 and Stg3 maps on the UTEC as well and I tried the Base Stg2 map thru first and second gear and didn't have any knock events either.

I just would like an Idea on which timing map to use that is will be safe, but also give decent power.

Thanks.

David.

That's a good start. They are set up for 93 octane according to their instructions, so removing that timing is a good idea on the basemaps.

However their fuel maps seem to be very rich, I did a dyno run and adove 2800 RPM my AFR nosedived into the 9's super rich, so there is a lot of improvement you can make there if you have access to a wideband setup to tune your fueling table. I gained a load of power by tuning the fuel table leaning it out. But I use 94 up here.

If only I could. No one here has either a Dyno or a Wideband O2 to try and tune with.

I guess I am really stuck with their fuel maps as I don't have the tools to adjust my fueling table at all.

Unless, it was a case of making a small, .1 adjustment to the table and then Data log the results. This method scares me though.

All I need it to have a conrod wave at me thru the block.

Any ideas on what I could do?

David,

I really suggest getting a wideband o2 sensor. Without this you are going to make life very difficult for yourself. IMO with the TXS basemaps setting your AFR's are probably more crucial than your timing. It is also a bit counterproductive to tune your timing for the AFR's you are at now, if they are not optimal or are to be changed later.

My suggestion is this...buy yourself a wideband of your choosing. These range anywhere from $350-$750. The lower end of the spectrum (cost wise) should do the job. (PLX or Zeitronix) You could even split the cost with a friend who could also use the wideband part time.

Your other option, depending on what your setup is, is to sell the UTEC and get an off the shelf map. (Ecutek/Cobb AP) The problem here is you have to have a setup that has a map available.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...and good luck with the car :)
