My platinum silver wagon is sitting in my driveway.

BTW props to Dick Piger and Ken Irvine at Becker Subaru in allentown PA.

They were patient, reasonable and really took time to help me understand the ins and outs of the deal, the car exct. They helped me with everything. I have to say it was a great experience.

Any way. now I've got the car I've got to master the nuances of driving stick. I can manage to get the car to go now, it just aint pretty all the time.

I'm going to practice this weekend in an industrial park near me to practice going forward and going backwards. I know from other posts that I'm not the only wrx owner who is a MT novice, so that in itself is a big help.

Well.. i'm going back to memorize the owners manual.

God bless America

You will never want an automatic again... at least in any sporty car you might own. :D

yup..once you hit MT say good bye forever to AT!

i made the mistake of buying an AT this last time.

been regretting it for the last 2 years i've owned my pontiac.

can't wait to get back to a MT WRX!

I got the silver wagon as my first stick too, pretty kewl.

Anyway, after stalling it a few times coming out of the dealer, it was pretty much all highway the way home (3 hours!). That evening I went to my work's parking garage and would pull into a space, park, backup, go up a ramp, repeat. Worked pretty good actually.

The hardest shift (still, after about 2 months) is the 1st to 2nd shift, to get it smooth takes some practice. I do the 1st to 2nd pretty smooth, but the slower the shift, the smoother it seems.

Just drive it, don't be embarrased stalling it (unless you're trying to rip a Integra a new one ;)) and practice... downshifting too, but leave that for a little later.

Dont forget to practice going up the hills and starting on a hillslope. Be sure to have an experienced person with you and use the handbrake.

I had to learn driving manual on a brand new high performance car...ouch !! It was so embarassing stalling the car etc but you get used to driving after a while.

Manual is more fun on empty roads.
On rush hour traffic and bad congestion, i'll take an auto anyday!

IMO, the WRX is a very easy car do drive, MT wise. some others are much harder to learn on. :)

You will have fun!

hey,
my wrx was the first car i ever bought with stick, when i picked it up at the dealer it was on the the third time i had ever even driven stick, needless to say it was a rough ride home!

Anyways, its easy to get the hang of, just practice, practice, and ask questions to other people who drive stick!

I totally agree, i wont buy another AT until i loose a limb.
