Has anyone purchased an extended warranty from your Subaru Dealership? I am being quoted 1450 for the standard plan and 2460 for the gold plan. I am approaching the 36K mark on my 04 and wanted to see what everyones thought was on the extended warranty. Worth it or not?
Thanks,
Chris

Don't forget, you have another 24,000 miles on the factory drivetrain warranty.

I dont know, i had one on my 03 but since it was totaled i got the money back. I havent bought it on my 05, but subaru will give you crap whenever you take your car in for a problem. If a problem on your car is with any of the drivetrain components, SUBARU IS VERY RUDE. My 03 had about 20,000 miles on it, i was going down the highway one day and felt something weird while i was shifting, when i got to my house, I tried to put it in reverse and it wouldnt go. When I took it to the dealer, they told me it might not be covered under warranty and will cost $600 to just take the tranny apart. They called back saying it wouldnt be covered under warranty, because it looked like i had raced it. I asked if they had taken it apart yet and he said "no", i was like then how the hell did you come to that conclusion. When the SOA rep got there and they had taken it apart, they found that a small plastic piece had snapped. A PLASTIC Piece in a tranny. They replaced it, and the car ran fine. Subaru needs to become as good as honda. Honda will take your car apart to find a loose screw and put it back together better than it was.

Yikes! I paid about 1400 for the gold plan, but I bought it at the time of purchase. I am at 76,000 and it just about paid for itself.

The MSRP for the Subaru Gold Plus extended warranty includes something like 50% markup, so you can negotiate the price down substantially. You can also buy the warranty from any SOA dealer, so check out internet quotes (for example at www.subaruwrxparts.com).

I paid ~$550 for the Gold on my '06.
Your mileage may vary. I purchased the extended warranty on my MY98 Impreza 2.2 OBS. It came in handy. I had over $10k in parts and labor warranty work done over the course of a few years. Clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing, transmission case, gears, synchros, etc. replaced multiple times. Basically they'd only authorize one repair at a time and I had cascading failure so each new installed part got damaged by previously damaged parts they refused to replace during the previous repair.
So, for me, it was definitely worth it.
