because I put a rear muffler on the car???? He said he would have to call Subaru to see if they (Subaru) would fix my frontend creaking noise and rattle around passenger door under warranty.

What a crock of *****. If my Stromung rear section wore a hole in my trunk, sure. But a frontend problem? Can they do this?

no... they can't...

do a search on "void warranty"

Very talked about topic...

And it's not so much the dealer.. but they are accurate in that it's SUBARU that has to void it...

If they do void it ask for the district technical managers WRITTEN explanation as to why the exhaust caused the warranty to be voided.. and what parts are voided.

If subaru tries to do a mass void on unrelated components, I'll be the >FIRST< to start to organize a class action suit. Because they can not (READ: can NOT!) void an unlreated components warranty without proving that your exhaust did it... and your exhaust doesn't give you 5000 ft/lbs of torque for them to say something about chassis flexing.

Let us know... but most importantly be honest....

I spoke with the service manger at my dealer be4 i moded anything and he said SOA allows CAT back exaust from the last cat and it will not void the warranty. He said there bigest issue with it is FEDERAL Emmissions but cat back is allowed. :D find a new dealer

that's crap... they cant do that...

subaru cant do that...

and man, find another dealer... sounds like they suck!!!
most dealers know the laws and are very tolerant of a mod here and there.... the late model subaru's are too much fun not to modify... that's why the dealer began carrying the STi stuff... they KNOW this...

sigh... anyway... they cant void your door rattle due to your exhaust!!! I cant even believe they are trying to...

good luck!

Yeah, it's just a muffler! What, if you buy an extended warrantee, and rust out the stock muffler in 50000 miles, you can;t get a replacement? That doesn't make sense.

You seem to have run across a touchy dealer.:(

SOA would not be that way. :)

everything's cool.....Subaru authorized repairs for front suspension creak and passenger side rattle (supposed to be fixed already).

The fact the Stromung was an issue shocked me.

Scary part is that there's only one dealership near Little Rock. He would need to go to Memphis or Fayetteville (150 miles ea) to find another... :(

yeah it would stand to reason that you'd want to find another dealer but it seems like it would be more fun from an atagonistic point of view to teach them a little lesson about the Magnusson Moss Act and their legal inability to void front-end problems because of an aftermarket exhaust. You know, make them eat their words and all... :D

at least they're gonna fix it now. the dealer was trying to rip you off to get some money from you.

If you do a search on SEMA there is a member who is a lawyer and is willing to provide legal advice on these matters. Good luck.

After talking to my dealer when I picked up the car, I can understand his position a little better. He did not want to shell out the bucks to fix the car without knowing whether or not he would be reimbursed from Subaru. Lets face it, the WRX is an entirely different animal than a lot of Subaru dealers are used to....I guess I'm the first one with a WRX to come thru that was not totally stock.

That said, it still seems like common sense to assume a rear muffler could not have anything to do with a front suspension noise. Anyway, he was real decent about it, and I won't have any trouble going back to them.

Now what about my silencer removal/hack.......
