I am trying to replace the front half shafts in my 1997 impresa outback and I can not get it out of the hub. Is there another clip other than the bolt on the outside.

no, there are no clips at the hub. It sounds like it's rusted in place. try soaking in PB blaster. that stuff will break anything free. When it comes time to pull the shaft from the tranny, there should be a drift pin holding each cv joint to the splines on the tranny. these need to be knocked out for removal.

What he said^^^^

There is a roll pin in the stub on the transmission, that holds the axle to the trans. Get that out, and you should be smooth sailing
