View Full Version : Boost gauge illumination problems

I have the Subaru Column Mounted boost gauge installed.

Yesterday I realized that for some bizarre reason the bottom half is ALOT dimmer than the top half. My friend said its because of where the buld is.

Does anyone else have this problem? I"m not sure if I can return it or what.

I"ll try to get pics to show what I'm talking about.

Thanks
Jeff

Someone posted earlier that SOA said its a product of design. All the boost guages are 'darker' then the other guagues...and yes its where the blub is.

Do a search! ;)

I've been here long enough to know thats the first thing you do , and of course I've done that.

Its just that all the posts about the illumination problems are related to the dash mounted kit.

I've yet to hear anyone mention illumination problems with the steering column mounted boost gauge.

I got pics. Maybe its just me but the gauge looks REAL dim on the bottom. Or maybe its just the fact that I stare at a computer screen 8 hours a day and may be going blind.

I have the exact same gauge. My gauge is a little darker towards the bottom, but not nearly as dark as yours. I can still clearly see the needle/numbers on the bottom of the gauge.

Hey Jeff - Here is the pic of my boost guage. Sorry about the blurry pic, camera focused on the tach. I removed the blue condom on the bulb before install in the cup. The illumination gives me better distinction between the tach and the boost guage.

You might want to try replacing the light bulb with a brighter one. It can be a pain but it might just fix the illumination problems.

Ok well the boost gauge is near impossible to get out once its in..

Mine lights up the same way as UU AR EX only alot dimmer..

I'm gonna try to pull this thing out of the pod again tomorrow..

My friends said I should leave it cause its only the vacuum numbers that are dim..

Friggin OEM parts

Jeff, if you remove the blue condom, the guage will be brighter and the lower half won't be as dim.

You might want to check what your dimmer switch is set on. I know my gauge would be too dark if i had the switch in the darkest position. Not sure what I have it at now(2nd or 3rd darkest?), but it was just bright enough for me to see the bottom part of the gauge. Not as bright as I thought it was though(just came back from a night time drive).

I keep the dimmer switch on its brightest setting.

I'm just curious if anyone else with this boost gauge has this problem.

I have the same exact problem with my steering column mounted laMco gauge (OEM that is). I can not see the needle at night AT ALL! That really sucks! I have to look for the tell-tail shadow in front of the scale...

This thread should be helpful-

The discussion was about the gauge pack but it's the same gauge whether in the pack or column mounted.
