View Full Version : 2000 OB: driver's side window will go down, won't come back up

I just bought this sweet 2000 Outback today, which really is immaculate, except for one (what i consider to be major) problem:

The driver's side window scrolls down fine, but will not come up. I've tried almost everything, and am certain that something is wrong or broken.

Anyway, I was wondering if some of you out there have encountered similar problems, and maybe can offer some reasons for why this is happening (and maybe give me a ballpark estimate on how much this would cost me to have fixed).

Thanks!

P.S: I tried starting the car and trying the window out, and also the window's motor wasn't broken due to frost or anything...

Since you mentioned a window motor I'm assuming you have power windows. Can you hear the motor running when you hit the switch? If so, then most likely your problem is a bad regulator. I had a similar problem, except my window wouldn't go up or down on its own.
It's pretty easy to fix yourself and the part should be pretty cheap (about $90). Just pop the door card off and have at it. There are service holes in the door itself and all the bolts you need to mess with are clearly visible.

I had this problem and it was the switch or something like that. Paid the dealer too much to have it fixed. Ask in the Legacy Forum, they will know.

Just had this issue on my 98. The switch was bad. Pretty cheap from a junkyard. Would've been $80 for the part otherwise. Mine powered down fine and then wouldn't come up. I could still get the motor to make noise pushing the swich down, so I knew it had to be the switch.

For mine you just remove the door panel, remove some screws and plugs and swap it out. Pretty easy really.
