got these info on the 06 WRX 5speed tranny from Subaru of Australia:

- 8 attaching bolts to engine which makes it a more rigid power plant.
- Cold forging and a shot peen hardening on gears for durability.
- Change of shift fork length for improved shifting.
- lever ratio changed from 5.9:1 to 4.8:1. stroke is shortened from
60mm to 50mm.
- Change from pull type clutch to push type clutch for lighter and simpler mechanism
- All synchromesh baulk rings and gear engagement teeth angles along w/ double cone synchros.
- double cone syncro for 1,2,3 gears.
- transmission case is of single unit construction for all gears along with AWD transfer gears for a compact transmission.
- clutch is an increased capacity single plate diaphragm with hydraulic operation.

The question is: are all these features new, or was already incorporated on the previous year models?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure the double cone synchros are a new feature. Added strength.

The US tranny only got:
Change from pull type clutch to push type clutch
Dual cone synchro on first gear

If you are asking about the Aussie model specifically, visit the MRT forums as they would be your only hope. If you are talking about the US model, quit visiting the Aussie Subaru site as NOTHING there applies here.

Why do we in the U.S get a$$ed out on some of the finer things the WRX's get? Does this have to do with any of the cost differneces, as the WRX seems to be a tad bit more expensive around the world. Or is the cost difference only a currency/exchange rate related issue?

will the US 06 model transmission fit in a earlier WRX models? or will the change from pull type clutch to push type clutch not work???

noob question here, but what is the difference between the push and pull type clutch? Is one type better than the other? Thanks.

yes the 06 tranny will work in earlier year cars.
but you will changeing a center diff or a rear end
to match the front diff ring & opinion gear ratios.

and the other way around too...
