View Full Version : Snowboarding @ Cypress
youthanasia 09-21-2001, 03:22 PM Hey guys, are any of you interested in ski passes on Cypress? We have a company group rate so if anybody is interested, pm me for details... :-) Joe, are you still interested in getting a pass and learn to snowboard with me? pm me your e-mail and I'll send you the info... :p
Penphoe 09-21-2001, 03:23 PM If you want to look like a fool on the mountain, I'll be right there with you Joe! Me growing up here in Vancouver, I've NEVER ski'd here! I've ski'd @ Silver Star, but that was a long time ago!
LaterZ!
Darren!!
youthanasia 09-21-2001, 03:25 PM Heh, so are you in Darren? You, me, and Joe tumbling down the side of Cypress? This will be my first time too :-p
I want to find a riding partner who's between intermediate and amateur-comp riding level. I've lost all my riding pals that I used to go with, doing "tree runs", riding pipe and park.
Keiho 09-21-2001, 03:33 PM I'd love to go...but I'm currently out of all disposable cash. Gear ain't cheap. Parts for the WRX ain't cheap either. :(
Necromancer 09-21-2001, 03:48 PM Awwwwyeah, I have until January to get good before my friends from California come up and start bitching about the slush-boarding down there. This is going to be the winter that my butt lives to regret. :D
Keiho, that's OK, you can be the wheelman since you have such a fine automobile. ;)
Keiho 09-21-2001, 04:02 PM I'll drive your wagon Necro. Like heck I'm driving my monster WRX out in winter time. That's what the GC8 is for. :D
urbanwhitetrash 09-21-2001, 05:23 PM This is kinda OT but not really.( gotta love ambiguous sentences eh? )
Ken,
You should get ski patrol out after your buddies. I thought I was bad in loosing a pair of gloves, but you lost a couple friends... damn ;)
Anybody here going to be getting a pass at whistler? outside of the folks who live in whistler of course. I am getting a gold express pass.
I think we should have an i-club ski day up at whistler this winter. So all y'all who are learning get good quick so we can play, k? :D Yeah, we could also have mini meets up at cypress or seymour and head out for night riding/skiing.
lookin' forward to this season like you can't believe!
pray for snow

youthanasia 09-21-2001, 05:30 PM Guys, the pass includes one night a week for the season, and we have to pick a night... I vote for Tuesdays or Fridays, as I would think this would be the least busiest of nights coz Tuesdays are like cheap nights for movies and Fridays, well... it's Friday! :)
Blackskull 09-21-2001, 05:43 PM Ken,
What type of rider are you? freestyle or freeride?
If freeride, you are welcome to join me and my buds. No more local mountains for us this season. I bought a ski card for Cypress last season and didn't even use it... not even once.
It's gonna be blackcomb for most of our trips. We usually do a big trip too. Last 2 years was Big White. This season, we're talking 'bout Big White and Banff.
Let me know if you're interested.
Thanks 'skull!
I freeride and freestyle. I've been riding 6 seasons, where the first four seasons I used to go 40 times a season. Like when I go ride, I wanna be dropping 10-20ft. vertical, 360'ing table-tops and such.
It wasn't so good going with beginners. I got this one fellow to spot the landing once and he didn't realize how far I was launching. I practically landed on his back leg and board... so that's why I want to start going with experienced guys again.
Blackskull 09-21-2001, 05:53 PM Ahhh... we sometimes will go do jumps, but rarely.
We just like to go down the mountain really really fast. If there's enough snow we tend to go into the glades a lot too.
Fast = good! :D We will definetely have to hook up and go. I think Urban sounds hardcore too...
With this group discount, you can opt for:
- one nighter (choose 1 night / week to go)
- ALTS on nighter ( 1 night / week + 5 day tickets and 1hr lessons )
Any of the above can be had, with or without rentals. I believe the price will range from $175+. The ALTS setup is worth it just for the 5 day tickets.

urbanwhitetrash 09-21-2001, 06:08 PM Ken,
Fast = good!
you're a man after my own heart. *sniff*
yeeehaaaaa buddy!!! my park board is a 165 and freeride board is a 173.
I am addicted to speed, powder, big hits and awkward airs.
why can't is snow now, dammit.

youthanasia 09-21-2001, 06:12 PM Here's the info on pass prices for this year. You qualify as a "renewal" if you had a season's pass last year (ski cards don't count).
<table>
<tr><td>Pass Type</td><td>Regular</td><td>Group</td><td>Group Renewal</td></tr>
<tr><td>Oneniter</td><td>$175</td><td>$175</td><td>$155</td></tr>
<tr><td>Dayniter</td><td>$525</td><td>$420</td><td>$31</td>1</tr>
<tr><td>Nitetimer</td><td>$450</td><td>$360</td><td>$275</td></tr>
<tr><td>Full Priviledge</td><td>$815</td><td>$652</td><td>$522</td></tr>
<tr><td>ALTS</td><td>$275</td><td>$220</td><td>$164</td></tr>
<tr><td>ALTS w/rental</td><td>$370</td><td>$296</td><td>$228</td></tr>
</table>
What are the different pass types? Read on . . .
A Oneniter is a pass to ski one night all season (you have to pick a night).
A Dayniter is a pass to ski Monday through Friday all day and night.
A Nitetimer is a pass to ski any night 7 days a week.
A Full Priviledge is a pass to ski any time you want.
An ALTS pass includes a oneniter pass, plus 5 lessons with day passes included (essentially, you get 5 day passes for very little more since you don't have to actually do the lessons). There is a rental option with the ALTS pass, which is pretty good value.
urbanwhitetrash 09-21-2001, 06:18 PM I vote for Tuesdays or Fridays, as I would think this would be the least busiest of nights coz Tuesdays are like cheap nights for movies and Fridays, well... it's Friday!
Friday night at cypress is a ZOO. For all those who go out and party on friday night, there are ten underage people who head up to the hills.
It is not a pretty sight on a friday night.

You mean, packed full of 11teens... We went on valentine's last year and I'll tell you that's the time to scope your hotties out. :D
Wed's weren't bad. For the most part, people start going home after 9pm or if the weather's bad (read raining or foggy). I get up there by 7-730pm anyways.
De Rama:I'll be in on the group discount for renewing my ALTS pass if I can't get it from my work.
Necromancer 09-21-2001, 06:37 PM Well I can't make Tuesday ... taking a Cantonese class. :D Can we do it on another midweek day, say Wednesday?
WRX-662 09-22-2001, 07:11 AM i just can't wait to hit my board with the plow again.. but i dont' think i'd do night timers because i'm more like a morning boarder...
i am into my 2nd year and i am going HARDCORE! but need to learn tricks before earning that status....
i've only did tree-rides once so i need help in doing tricks folks...
thanks!
youthanasia 09-22-2001, 02:59 PM Joe: Wednesday is good, and some of the people in my office says it's not bad. I heard monday isn't bad too... okay, we have to pick a night :-)
Sato: Let me know :-) I'll send you the form...
youthanasia 09-24-2001, 01:52 PM Bumpity bump!:D
Penphoe 09-24-2001, 03:32 PM Dunno when my classes will be scheduled yet! :(
Hmm, best nites for me would be Monday or Wednesday, with my preference being Wednesday.
LaterZ!
Darren!!
Necromancer 09-24-2001, 03:59 PM Wednesday would be best for me as well. (Monday OK too)
Sounds like Wednesday?
Necromancer 09-24-2001, 04:01 PM Not that we'll see you on the same slopes anyway! :)
youthanasia 09-24-2001, 05:11 PM Me and BearBear are going Wednesdays as well... time to tuble down the slopes!!
BearBear 09-24-2001, 08:39 PM Just as an FYI, the gal in charge of coordinating the application forms would like the completed forms by this Friday.
youthanasia 09-26-2001, 01:40 PM Bumpity bump bump! (I'll just bump this up until the last day (friday).
Peter, I need to drop my form off with you. My PDF file didn't print out that well, and I'm afraid faxing it will chop off my long form. PM me or icq me so I can meet you somewhere to give it to you.
youthanasia 09-26-2001, 05:17 PM ken, pm'ed you.
youthanasia 09-27-2001, 02:11 PM Just a reminder, tommorow is the last day to fax your registration forms in! :-) Get them in today if possible...;)
Necromancer 09-27-2001, 04:03 PM Just FAXed mine in! ALTS with rental on Wednesday, right?
Now where to get boots...
Check out Comorsports. I bought my whole boarding package their and I got a deal, so they aren't too bad. There are all of the board shops down on W4th. but the prices won't be that different.
Burton boots tend to be wide. I had size 10's, but they were wide. I then got into some size 5 Nitros! Talk about size difference. Airwalks aren't as wide as Burtons, and they are good boots. It'll be at least $200. $300+ for more comfortable boots.
Spend the money on your boots - it's worth it
Screw fancy bindings and a super nice board - you'll have a better time riding with super comfy boots.
Just caught this thread - ring me when you guys go up - I wouldn't mind shredding up the mountain =P
TMR:devil:
youthanasia 12-07-2001, 02:33 PM If you were waiting for your confirmation package, see below.
Subject: Re: Cypress group passes
Strange...I think that we have had a computer glitch. Thanks for alerting me
to this problem. I have just looked up every individual on your list and all
of them are in our computer system. This means that all of them can go to
any mall location (Metropolis, Pacific Centre, Cypress Mountain Sports at
Park Royal or up the mountain) to get their passes, even without the letter.
Anyone who would like a confirmation letter for a receipt purpose, he/she
can call Ann at group sales at 604-926-5612 ext.661 and request a letter.
Ann usually works weekdays from 8am to 2pm. Please let me know if you have
any further concerns. I apologize for the mix-up.

I thought they screwed up! I guess I'll go to Metrotown later.
Yuhin 12-08-2001, 02:07 PM Ken:
after re-reading your post, you ARE HARD-CORE, DUDE!
you've had 4 seasons already? cool...
say, casperwhitetrash, how come your riding board is so long?
how'd you control such a long board?
i'm going on thurs, day after my last exam hehe
Ken i'd be asking you for conditions the night before!
Ok, so it's open now during the week for night boarding. I am going to go Wed. I don't expect it to be the greatest yet so I'll probably get board after an hour or so, so I will volunteer on helping anyone that wants help on the bunny hill, or on the regular runs. Probably I will be up there by 7:30pm and then get my pass processed.
Let me know if you all plan on going this Wed.
youthanasia 12-10-2001, 07:36 PM I went on my first lesson yesterday (sunday). Hrm, my only problem is getting up heel side. I don't wanna go downhill using only toe side pendulums... I wanna turn around and face downhill....
Yuhin 12-11-2001, 12:31 AM hehe youth don't just get your face into the downhill though
hehe just joking
Yuhin 12-11-2001, 12:33 AM Ken, you train people?
can you teach me how to take off and do jumps,
i really want to knwo about that...
youthanasia 12-11-2001, 12:42 AM There is a phase that everyone calls "learning"... I'm pretty sure you've been there....

the worse fall i had was wehnn i almost chopped my head off with my own board!
i fell face first downhill , my body facing the front, and then the board went over my back and choped my at the back of my head...
well it was at cypress last season...
i'm glad i didn't need any stitches...
youthanasia 12-11-2001, 12:51 AM No offense taken... :p
Yuhin 12-11-2001, 01:56 AM :)
snowbroading is wayyy cool
you'll have much fun with it i bet
it's all worth it for all the hard work falling down
If you're brave enough to follow me into the snowboard terrain park, I'll show you. Or just on a regular run. :D
haha..thats not that bad..choppin your head...i had some crazy accidents...in my 6 years so far snowboarding....I've broken my ribs at the blackcomb terrain park...blacked out like 4 times...1 concussion...and one time I blacked out.I swear to god..I was lying in the snow..nailed my head..then I got up...then looked back down where I was lying down..and saw my body still lying there..then like a second later..I woke up..and was like what the ****?? that was the craziest ever...i musta hit my head really hard...
but yeah...ever sice that accident..I ride with a helmet..so much safer...that and most terrain parks require you to wear a helme tif you wanna ride in it..I know that it is at cypress and seymour...
youthanasia 12-11-2001, 12:30 PM Wow:eek:  ... you guys do some crazy shizz! I'm not worthy!!!! yet...:alien:
Blackskull 12-11-2001, 05:19 PM Are lift tix at Cypress $40 some odd now??
I'm probably heading up to Blackcomb on Sunday :D
Can't wait... Hope I've recovered from our office Xmas party by then.
BearBear 12-11-2001, 10:37 PM Wow, some of you are hard core!
The only time I've ever had an accident was in my first season, and I think it was somewhere in Colorado... but it was sort of icy and I was going fast on my second or third time on a board, and I fell backwards and hit the back of my head. No out-of-body experience, but I instantly felt a spectacular attack of nausea and had to restrain myself from puking on the faces of my helpers (wouldn't want the ski patrol guys smelling like puke for the rest of their shift now, would we). Apparently it was a concussion.
I plan to get a helmet this season... I definitely find it fun and want to keep doing it so I can get good.. don't think I'll ever try the half-pipe, but Ken if we see you @ Cypress on Wed I wouldn't mind getting tips from you while practicing how to link my turns properly.
Any need a helmet? Might be selling my large sized K2 helmet since it doesn't fit quite right. I'll sell it for whatever a new one costs, minus 20bux no tax. Only used it a few times last season, like new, and very clean.
