We went down to the racetrack to make a few 1/4 mile shakedown runs....

I ran the first pass real careful like,...looking out for a misfire/noises, shifting @ 7000 rpm and granny slow style shifting...Before you go for big #'s you have to make sure the cars running good..moreso when your on a new setup.

12.1@126.5 with a 2.4 60 ft
It looks good to go  .....so i go for a more agressive run....still with a easy easy launch but this time with shifts @ redline of 7500 rpm and normal shifting speeds.

WOW  ...fckin shixt this car has some balls, alot faster then the first pass..as i shift into third.... :( The clutch died on the spot...dead as a door nail..the motor spun freely to about 7500-7700 rpm or so.

No smell,...no smoke....Just death of a clutch

Amazing, Amazing tuning by Mike@ Gruppe-S WOW  is all I can say....He is the man :disco:

Exedey hyper single... :furious:

I know i should of gotten a twin plate....long story but,...i was scammed by another shop and ended up with this clutch

Stay tuned folks

With that much torque and repeated drag launches I can't say I'm suprised it died. It was probably slipping and heating up the first few warm up passes and then failed when you really pushed it.

holy turbo lag, GT35R and FMIC?
The car drives great...Feels alot more like a 30r then a 35r.

Early on, I was pushing Mike for more RPM...thinking i would have problems with lag/boost onset..He told me to stick with a 7500 redline or so.

He was right..The cars fine with the current setup..I'm very very happy with the powerband...6000rpm peak power

The turbos maxxed...thats a good thing :D

my friend had a hyper single, and the thing didn't last either. i've heard the hyperdoubles aren't much better, and they drive like ass. a full unsprung six puck drives eaier and lasts longer. just alot more drivetrain shock. i've also heard the Spec 3+ clutch is really good. awesome power though, congrats.

Great run!

If you want quiet, reliable, and affordable, the ACT 6 puck solid is really hard to beat. The discs are inexpensive and can be replaced. Lot's of drag racing and you'll have to change discs once every 15K miles and the flywheel once every 30K. The clutch requires a little finesse shifting due to the solid engagement and a little more revs from a stop. (All based on my personal experience).

A dual disc will get the job done but the noise and the expense??????

Thanks,
Phil

wow the act 6 puck is about a $1000 cheaper than the exedy twin plate.

isn't big valley team using the exedy twin on their runs. if so that clutch should hold up fine.

Would really depend on gas to be honest. typically between 330-350whp on 91.

For the record Mark's car isn't running C16, it's running a crossover equivalent gas that the jury is still out on whether it's any good or not.

To be honest I imagine if all out power numbers were the goal there would be a little more to be had out of Mark's setup but there were a number of reasons to stop where we did.

One being that the injectors were max'd out.

i say you go with the exedy twin disc... it is a tiny bit noisy but with 450+ horsepower i dont think you will hear it over your exhaust haha, and it doesnt need as much finnes as the 6 puck. ive driven a 2.5rs with a 6 puck and took time to get used to and i drove an sti with an exedy twin (not sure what type) and it took me all of about 3 drives to learn. i think for street/strip go with exedy its more forgiving in trafic. but for less expensive same grabing force go 6 puck but not as forgiving for everyday driving.

Mark, I bet it had more than 126mph in it with the way it was tuned the other day. Since you weren't pushing the car hard through each gear (to redline and/or shifting) it would've trapped higher than that. Seems like everyone always wants to use trap speed as the ultimate indicator of power but I don't think it's that black and white. Your car is going to be sick i'm sure :)

I have a Gruppe-S motor...that is the pistons they run :)

The car is full weight with no parts removed...with AC/Alpine-MB quart system/18 inch SSR GT2 wheels.

The wheels take off a few pounds i think as do the Sparco Tourino Seats...The car also has a few features that hold back power like the heavy and quiet Borla Hush exhuast...but hey this is also meant to be a street car.

Easy 130+..very easy.
The shifts were slow...throttle inputs were progressive...just in case something were to come up...and it did, on the first pass the driverside wheel inside plastic came loose and wedged itself between a tire and some suspension...It made alota noise, but no damage..alittle scarey to be honest.

Me too...the funny thing is that we installed a ACT puck and its kick butt plus its $$$ less...I've driven ACTs on WRXs and DSMs...but it feels alot nicer in the STI then any of those cars.

Even with 400WHP you are going to have to drive that car tough man style. You should talk to mark before you go and have him give you some pointers on launching and shifting.

haha can't be that hard... even I was able to get it :p

I'm going back to the track, I am on the stock motor and put down 404 on Gruppe-S's dyno. I say next time at the track will be a 11.5-11.6(faster shifting)

:furious:
Mark just give up... You won't get to 10's before me...

I should be picking my car up with a broken-in clutch and somewhere around 390-400whp on the 91/meth injection map in another day or so...that should be fun until "boss hog" arrives back.

I hope not :(

We put the ACT clutch in shortly after the Exedey toke a dump...and it seems to be holding up alright.

I'm in the process of getting a laptop and learning the Hydra and settting the AVCR controls...plus other stuff in my everyday life like doing my taxes/vacation came up.

No real news...

In the next few weeks we'll be out @ the track...now somebody has already run 10's :disco: ..the pressure is off,..now we just have to make sure the car runs to its full potenial. :)
