View Full Version : 06 WRX Paint Problems
suBooneru 02-19-2006, 08:31 PM I just noticed the other day that below the bottom crease of the doors on my wagon the paint has really bad orange peal. It's actually so bad that, besides just looking thick, blotchy ,and runny, it actually has a textured feel to it. Anyone else have this problem on their 06 and does anyone know if this is a warrantable issue with SOA? I can probably live with it being so low on the body and hard to notice, but it's pretty annoying to pay so much money for a new car that has a crap paint job from the factory.

Welcome to the Impreza Owners Club. It's been an unfortunate problem of Subaru's for quite some time now. I doubt they will warranty it either, though you can certainly try to bring it to your dealer's attention.
06boosted 02-19-2006, 09:09 PM On the bottom half of my sideskirts, its like that
surfer.tech 02-19-2006, 09:31 PM ^^ yup me too. if you bring it to the dealership they will blame it on rock chips or something. crappy subaru paint.

Canonshooter 02-19-2006, 09:35 PM My '06 has it too, and that is the way it supposed to be. The lower part of the doors have a special coating under the finish to resist chipping.

You must be talking about something else, because what he mentioned is normal.
Notice how it is even all the way down the doors, and it is the same on both sides? Orange peel is usually uneven and in various places. It is normal for ALL Subaru models. Just go to any dealship lot and take a look
mixjon 02-19-2006, 11:28 PM subaru and cheap paint are hand and hand it dose'nt matter what model year or model. Look on the bright side your crappy paint location could be worse then by the door. Example here is my 01 rs, 2 years after purchase. this is all up front where it cant hide, so i see it everyday. fading paint on vents looks like a topagraphical map of a country and the hood, oh my.... My car is clean (by the way)those white spots are not dirt or rockchips its missing paint from highway driving.

Maybe this is the reason for the 04 add campeign with lance armstrong "its what inside that counts"

Butrball12 02-20-2006, 06:27 PM i had a problem with overspray on the bumpers and grill of my 06 wagon. It looked liked an overspray of primer or silver paint. took it back to the dealer and they wetsanded it out. subaru paint does in fact suck
RexyGirl 02-20-2006, 07:13 PM You guys are not talking about the same thing he is. He is talking about the coating at the bottom of the doors that looks like orange peel. It is normal, it's supposed to be there.

yeah its sorta like a undercoating, so that it doesnt rust from rock chips.
REVNU 02-20-2006, 07:47 PM Yes.. It's a rubberized undercoating to help protec against chips. My old honda had it too.
