I have a simple question...and I'm in need of some advice?

Is it okay to have your car unintended and not driven for a long period of time? Other than physical damage car or stuff like that, is leaving a car just sitting there for a long period of time not good for the car?

Is it good to start the engine and maybe take it for a short drive?

I care about my baby a lot, just want to make sure everything!!!

Yeah, you should start and drive the car as often as possible, espically with a REX you don't need any kinda rust forming anywere near the turbos internals. (or any other part for that matter.)

Are you in a "secure" lot...??
if not you might want to move the car from spot to spot once in a while so it doesn't "look" un-attended.

A car cover might be a good investment, to keep them nasty bird droppings off the car. (having bird doo on the car for a week or two could really make you an un-happy-camper)

other than that you shouldn't have any problems, others may want to add to this but this is what i can offer in advise.

how long is a long period of time. Months, days. I wouldn't let over a week go by without giving it a little spin. You must have time on the weekends to do this. Jeez take a girl there one night or something. ;)

Unless you are going for some sort of insurance settlement I wouldn't post things like I park my car at X and don't visit it very often.

Just some friendly advice.

To answer your questions, try to get to it at least once a week and drive it around until it fully warms up.

I did a similar post in another section. I did some internet research on this topic. Driving once per month for twenty minutes per drive is all that’s required. Now personally I would not go that long . Weekly would be fine.

If you are unable to drive you car for a long period of time ie: holidays, prison, I would be glad to volounteer to take fver that duty for you... I could drive it everyday.. Take real good care of it.....

But on the serious side, With these 4 cylinder enginse it is not good to have them sit there for long periods of time, But the bigger cars (6's and V8's) dont have as much a problem... I would definatley give the car atleast a 20 min run every week if you are not driving it......

If you are planning on leaving somewhere for an extended period of time you may want to consider something else. If you are leaving your car for a prolonged period, say a tour of duty overseas, then having someone start and warm your car weekly or monthly isn't exactly the best option.
There is a product on the market that is like a giant ziplock baggie for your car. You drive onto it and fold it over the top and zip it up. It seals out moisture and mice. If it were me, I would use that but put the car up on four jack stands and shrink-wrap my wheels and tires. This will keep your tires from developing flat spots. I would drain the fuel tank and empty the system. This will keep the fuel from turning into that sticky brown goo that clogs injectors. I would also drain the oil. (Some people fill the cyl through the plug hole with new oil). I really don't know if there is any benefit to draining the transmission or differential oil. Lastly, I would drain the cooling system and remove the battery. (Don't store your battery sitting directly on concrete) I think it is best to leave the power steering and brake fluid in the systems. When you get back make sure you fill all fluids, syphon and oil in your cylinders out and replace your filters. Before you start the car, turn it over several times without spark to circulate the new oil.

This is all considering that your qualitative "long period of time" will be a year or more. I am sure that there are other precautions you can take. The steps you take to preserve your vehicle are going to depend on how long you expect it to sit.
