So I got a set of snow tires off of ebay. They came with steel wheels but I already have two sets of wheels so I don't need them.I wanted to see the look on my WRX so I put cardboard behind the wheel and traced the pattern.I then put that behind a set of RS wheels I have and they looked identical. My next step was to put two on and get a look.I pushed it out of my garageso I could hear any noises. There is plenty of clearence around the stock brakes and everything else. The only difference I could see is the lug nuts are beveled differently. They have Audi/VW stamped into them along with a bunch of other part numbers.Anyone know of anyone who has tried this setup and if it worked?I don't want to sell them to somebody until I have as much info as possible. Thanks for you coments/suggestions

Brian

Some VAG cars are 5x100, which it would seems these wheels are as he already mounted two of them on a WRX. Most likely the offset is much lower so even though they fit, they don't really "fit".

Look for the numbers you need on the wheel: hole pattern, offset...

mkiv vw's (along with the 5 lug mkiii's) are 5x100 (audi TT is the only recent audi w/ a 5x100). Offset on vw wheels is generally in the 35-38 range.

ok I have to be the noob here...what exactly is "offset"?

offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the back (mounting surface) of the wheel. its usually negative, so when we say 55 or 38mm offset, its -38mm offset.

Actually offset is usually positive. Look in this thread.

See how offset is +48.:)

So when you say "the back mounting surface",do you mean where the wheel is mounted to the car or where the tire is mounted to the wheel?
