ok, so my99LOB 2.5dohc blew the HG's and got kinda hot a few times. well mostly just once, but it was really bad. temp pegged for about 8miles coming back from mt. hood meadows. So i went out and found a 2000 2.5 sohc outa a 2.5RS with 8k on it that i wanted to swap in. Now the problem is some of the sensors will not transfer over. so i stopped by rallitek and they said to just to the hybrid thang, which i was really thinking about before i got the new motor. And now knowing that i have to do it and i'll need to replace the HG's on the 2000RS motor I almost might as well rebuild the HG's on my old motor. what do you guys think?

I'd love to just do the hybrid thing, but i feel bad about tearing apart this really nice 2.5sohc motor just for the shortblock. is it worth just redoing the HG's on my old motor as well as the valve cover gaskets and the rear oil plate and main seal. my orig motor has 100K on it and its already outa the car.

I would just put new head gaskets on your current 98 engine. You can use the same head gaskes as a new STI engine. Call subaru and ask them if they updated the head gaskets for the 98 RS motor. It should be a 3 layer metal gasket. If they did not, then just order a set of gaskets for 04 STI. should be around $60 bucks for gaskets.
