View Full Version : Comprehensive Componet Weight table
Scooby South 02-21-2006, 10:59 AM I want to start a all inclusive thread on weight of items...Please only post if you know EXACTLY what each thing weighs that you are taking off the car and what the weight of the item you are replacing it with...
I am doing struts tonight...so I will post weight on each strut assy tomorrow...
I searched and found nothing except the thing that Sport Compact Car did on their 04...Oh yeah...Please try to make this thread as informative as possible...contribute if you can....
Bill

Excellent...:)...thanks...
Let's see.

-Paul
ps: Currently I am running with the heavy Whiteline front and rear bars but I am changing that shortly, going to a strano bar up front and either back to my Cobb hollow rear bar or no rear bar at all, depends on how the new rear springs work out. So that could be another 10-15 lbs off.

I have a question about the gas tank weight. What is included? Is that a wagon, sedan, or STi tank? IIRC, there are 50 and 60 liter kinds. Is it really 47 pounds empty?!?
BIGSKYWRX 06-29-2006, 11:23 PM RCE brake ducts .4 lbs for the pair- a savings over the dust shields they replace :)

BIGSKYWRX 06-30-2006, 12:31 AM I always wondered who this anonymous person was :)- thanks
aspera 07-03-2006, 08:34 AM Hi Larry! I just got back from your part of the country. Pike's Peak was a little different this year. There were only a few rally cars in the race, but still lots of Subarus in the parking lot at Devil's Playground.
THE, I repeat THE highlight for me this year was inspecting Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima's Suzuki after the race. Okay, maybe seeing him chain drift and almost plow into the crowd was cooler. But it was like an alien spaceship, only cooler. That car should be studied.
One thing that made me smile was the foam under the front splitter. (I wouldn't even call it a splitter. That thing is a damn PORCH.) Anyway, the foam is painted black so scrapes show up as white marks. That lets the splitter get as close to the ground as possible to choke off airflow. It also lets the crew know how low it can go. Plus, foam is really light. (Duh)
The most beautiful part of the car is the CNC'd aluminum bulkhead between the engine and the transmission. That's pretty much the motor mount/tranny mount/crossmember all-in-one.
Anybody care to guess the size of the front tires?
Trivia: There appeared to be a plastic Subaru windshield wiper fluid bottle mounted to the right of the driver's seat. I think it might have been for wiper fluid, but I'm not sure. The car had a wiper shaft, but no wiper arm fitted for this race.
The wiper fluid bottle was right next to the oxygen tank. :D

Chiketkd 11-07-2006, 02:32 PM Anyone know what the stock WRX wing weighs? Looks like it would be light.
Was this question ever answered? I'd like to know the answer as well.
I saw someone posted that a stock STI trunk w/ WRX wing weighs 30lbs.
Warp3 11-07-2006, 02:45 PM Well since Chiketkd bumped the thread (albeit legitimately with a question), I'll add some data to it. I did some weighing on an analog bathroom scale when I swapped out my axleback last weekend and got the following data:
Stock 2006 WRX axleback exhaust: 21 lbs
Maddad Whisper 2.5" axleback exhaust: 19 lbs
BIGSKYWRX 02-03-2007, 11:25 PM spec C/USDM STi 04-06 front aluminum arm w/ ball joint and rear bushing 8.9 lbs (one arm)

crystalhelix 02-05-2007, 10:01 AM bill - to do this thread justice most of this info needs to make it back into the OP, otherwise from experience (tire thread) people will continue to post the same stuff over again eventually nobody will be able to find what they are looking for, ...

thats gotta be wrong. the motor alone has to be like 450ish...stock wiring (motor and chassis harness) have to be somewhere in the vacinty of like 60-70lbs and the heatercore and all that nonsense maybe 20-30lbs?

crystalhelix 02-09-2007, 12:51 AM I am looking for someone with a EVO2 seat with aluminum side mounts and the seat bracket to weigh them. saabpilot 02-09-2007, 03:11 PM I'm sure it's not completely new info:
To get an idea of the effect of weight on acceleration you can use the site below. I compared several cars and it's fairly accurate. In any case it can be used for comparitive reasons. It doesn't account for the effect of weight on driving dynamics, but a neat resource. It seems 10 lbs = has about a .012 secs affect on 0-60 in a WRX wagon @ stage 2 with about 280 fwhp (like mine), according to this site.

I've got the aluminum side mounts and an evo L. My notes are barely legible, but I think the evo+mounts+sliders/base was 23 lbs. Stock STi driver seat is ~44. I've got mine in the garage, so I could go weigh it...
The al mounts are pretty darn light...the base and sliders are not.

DuckStu 02-10-2007, 01:27 PM YO guys! Stop having conversations in the weight table thread.
This is a "weight table",...not a chat room. It should be 2-5 posts long,...and now you guys have turned it into a mess.
STOP!
crystalhelix 02-10-2007, 01:39 PM 1st post man, it's all in the first post...
here's my contribution "the driver of 99 BSP weighs 234lbs..."
DuckStu 02-10-2007, 04:39 PM From the OP;
Please only post if you know EXACTLY what each thing weighs that you are taking off the car and what the weight of the item you are replacing it with...
Exactly,...don't make a post unless you have specific and accurate measurements to contribute. You should also list what mesurement equipment you used to measure the items with. And if you did it with a bathroom scale.....don't bother posting at all. They are usually off at least a few lbs,...and are incapable of accurately measuring anything under about 20 lbs.
Also,...scales (like guages of most any sort) are really only accurate in the center 50% of their range. I.e. a tire pressure guage that reads to 60 lbs will only be as accurate as it's specs say it is from 20-40 lbs. If you are running a go-kart that uses 10 psi,...you need a guage that reads to 20 lbs, not one that reads to 50. As such,....if you use a scale that reads to 80 lbs,...and you are trying to measure an item that weighs 5 lbs,....you need to put a 20 or more lb weight on it and re-zero it, and then weight the 5 lb item. And if you are using a bathroom scale that reads to 300 lbs,....again,...don't bother to post.
Hopefully the links in the first post will one day contain most of the items members here have weighed so far, and be posted directly into the thread,.....so they will be easier to read and will show up in a search.
P.s. from my post on the first page

Chiketkd 09-06-2007, 03:34 PM bttt. Anyone know the weight or even shipping weight of the Whiteline 27/29mm FSB?
ButtDyno 09-06-2007, 03:55 PM You could check with TiC or RCE perhaps. I dunno if they keep em in stock or drop ship them.
Chiketkd 09-06-2007, 04:04 PM Thanks. I'll try to shoot Myles a pm...
BIGSKYWRX 09-06-2007, 10:32 PM bttt. Anyone know the weight or even shipping weight of the Whiteline 27/29mm FSB?
11.1 lbs :) (oe 20mm front is 6.3) these are sans the bushings
Chiketkd 09-06-2007, 10:42 PM Sweet! Thanks BigSky!!!
iamchris 06-01-2009, 06:19 PM www.oakos.com has a detailed component weight list on their website for the early generation USDM WRX (2002).
http://www.oakos.com/wrx/weights.htm
I was the source for the weights at the bottom of the page.

Interesting. If I take all the lug nuts off my car, I'll save 0.0441 lbs!
crystalhelix 06-02-2009, 09:52 AM wow, way to bring back a 2 year old thread..
;)
Frank A 06-02-2009, 12:41 PM this used to be a good thread but its out of date now. Someone needs to start (and maintain!) a new, organized weights thread. Maybe by category: GC OEM parts, GD OEM parts, GR OEM parts, and Vender parts?
Frank
BIGSKYWRX 06-02-2009, 08:23 PM I've got a bunch of oe GH weights already if someone wanted to organize it by chassis which I agree would be nice (granted a lot of work too) :)
hklatte 08-04-2009, 07:37 PM 16.5 lbs UPS shipping weight for a perrin 25mm rear sway bar w/ rubber bushings and U-shape retainers (part #PSP-SUS-204).
Stock rear sway bar is 8.5 lbs according to OAKOS.
Someone should look into making big sway bars out of composites!!
Frank A 08-05-2009, 10:16 AM the shipping weight on that Perrin bar is at least a pound heavier than the final bar- not even really worth looking at that number.
hollow bars are currently available from Hotchkis for the GD body and a front bar for the GR (under the Cobb label). Hotchkis has told me they will not be supporting the GR. Racecomp is working on hollow F&R bars for the GR I believe. I've never weighed the Hotchkis bars on my '02, but I believe they were lighter than stock when I put them on, iirc. Neither the Hotchkis bars, nor probably the Racecomp bars, are as stiff as a 25mm solid bar though. They are geared more for the road racing environment. If you're autocrossing and you need a bar that thick, I don't have a lighter solution.
