You don't keep traction... My friend has a supercharged '96 Viper... He makes around 800-900 ft/lb, and it's probably one of the scariest cars to drive in. In all road conditions, the car can and will lose traction, and with the lack of weight in the rear, it just slides.

He was running the stock width 335's (don't remember what tire), but they needed to be replaced.

I bet it's over 110 degree's inside the car too. I did some insulation for a guy with that had a supercharger and NAWZZZ in a first Gen viper. God it was fast. But was seriously the most uncomfortable car i've ever been in. Too much power too little control.

There was a video of a blue Viper that made 1200hp/1200ft.lbs. on SVT about a year ago from the same shop. That's insane.

My twin turbo (7.0 L) Corvette will be coming back from the builder/vendor shortly. If we wanted to, I could have the boost turned up so that it was making about 1050-1100 RWHP, but I would give up the 2-year warranty on it. Moreover, similar cars making 725 HP do not hook up at all on the street, even with 345 width sticky tires. I could only imagine it at 1050-1100 RWHP.

Now take Viper, a car with known not-too-easy-to-hook-up qualities, get it up to 1200 RWHP, and take that out on the street = no traction. I do not know that I could do that in a street car - even 600 is tough.

On the other hand, give that to me in a drag car, with sticky slicks and a built drivetrain ... oh yeah.

Here's a viper that was at the Rolex24 this year. Rear was badged 1200r tt. Not my cup of tea, but still crazy cool none the less. I don't usually post tags, but this one had to be shared.

Jeez - a direct port nitrous turbo'd (and probably stroked) Viper. That'll make a few ponies.

I recall being in Houston at a trans builder (Mike Kurtz), and seeing a brand new Viper on a lift that was having a Powerglide (!!) stuck into it so that it could handle the 1200 or so HP coming from the twin-turbo sprayed motor that was just put into it. Insane.

wasnt there another viper on streetfire with 1600 whp- by the way the numbers are impressive but not really considering the displacement of the engine is more than 3 times greater than an sti. a gt35 sti has a way better power to displacement ratio than this car

Yeah I kinda agree but the turbos just sound so sweet. They've also got a vid of the same Viper pummeling a 2004 Cobra that has a 150 shot and and all of the other bolt ons. The Cobra looked slow in comparison!

I stopped by their shop today and damn, they've got turbo Vipers everywhere! Well, they probably had like 6 of them in various stages of being turbo'd and had one on the dyno when I got there. Pretty cool place!

While this may be true pertaining to certain road racing for a drag car you cant beat the potential of the Vipers motor with some turbos it has an entire 1.3 liters and 2 cylinders more and any five year old will tell you bigger is better :banana:

I would take a Z06 for a road racing even though I bet its a bit slower on a track stock for stock(depending on the track of course) and the handling balance is better and probably gives more confidence.
