View Full Version : 110 octane for $4.30/gallon
jdiddy 02-22-2006, 02:11 AM The gas station around the corner from me has 1 pump with 110octane.....for soem reason the only cars I have ever seen using it are V8 Mustangs  20 years ago my brother in law used to put that and only that in his dirt bike :D
Anyway I'm going to be getting a custom tune done soon and was wondering if I need to have a tank full of that stuff for my tuner to make me a map for it? If not I guess Ill just go to him with just a bit of 93 in teh tank and then drive over there and fill up with that and have him retune it for that. Does anyone know what kind of HP & TQ gains I should get with stock turbo and full TBE & uppipe vs 93 octane after a full tune....
SketchINoc 02-22-2006, 02:24 AM A lot of tuners have race gas in stock.
I made 260whp 275wtq on a half tank of 91 (around 8 gallons) and 5 gallons C16 (117 octane), which comes out to 101 octane. The only mods are catless TBE, uppipe, and K&N drop in. This was on a dyno jet.

White 2.5rs 02-22-2006, 03:11 AM Damn, its about 6-6.25 here....and I have to drive across town behind a building to get it...atleast its across the street from the Subaru dealership...which is where I am a lot of the time getting parts :)
reddevil 02-22-2006, 04:08 AM Just buy Torco! $15 a can. One can makes 92 into 16 gallons makes something like 96-100 octane. I am not at my shop so I can't read the info off the can right now. But it DOES WORK!!!!!
PDX Tuning uses it all the time. I buy my 5 gallons at a time from them.

SketchINoc 02-22-2006, 05:12 AM fullerton is also 5.99, but even then its only 100oct....wheres 110? im guessing not in CA.
there are a lot of places to get c16 (117 octane) in So Cal.
iamchris 02-22-2006, 05:31 AM So why can you get 117 octane in cali, but not 93? Is it just me or are your legislators retarded?
Pavlo 02-22-2006, 06:26 AM In the UK, race fuel is typically $19 a gallon, you don't know you're born!
WRenXhaven 02-22-2006, 08:20 AM 110 for 4.30? Where do you live?

is this at the pump?
99RSTurbo 02-22-2006, 02:36 PM The only problem with buying race fuel from a normal gas station is, they dont sell a ton of it, so it sits in a tank under the ground for who knows how long. Your HP shops usually go through it alot quicker and are pumped out of drums not big tanks that have alot of moisture in them.
However, one of the local stations here sell 110 for about that price, and if Im not going crazy on the boost I will run it, otherwise the car see's C16
VIR EURORALLY 02-22-2006, 03:17 PM $4.99 per gallon here at 2 stations the rest are $6.25. On my tunes I'm seeing a 70whp difference between 93 and 110.
99RSTurbo 02-22-2006, 03:20 PM Are you just changing fuel, not more boost?
You shouldn't see a 70whp difference from fuel only?

Usually when people switch to race gas they are implying they have a "race map" that is tuned for higher octane fuel.

I dont assume anything, just a question. He didn't state anything about more boost, said he changed fuel and made 70whp. Of course you'll make more power with more boost!!! I made over 100whp more on race fuel and more boost.
White 2.5rs 02-22-2006, 09:01 PM Since this thread is random as hell, 99RSTurbo, what is your cars setup?
trbowrx 02-22-2006, 09:08 PM i saw a huge gain with 110 mixed with 93 when i had my sti tuned, i paid 5.25 a gallon here in richmond va.

ScoobyNubieToo! 02-22-2006, 09:22 PM I don't know where to find aything higher than 94 in my area....if I did, that would be all I would use.
White 2.5rs 02-22-2006, 09:27 PM Damn, thats some serious money invested...
I wish I had that kind of cash :)
I don't remember if I've asked you, but can you take some pics of your intake manifold, and brackets/pulley setup and send me them :)?!
chapstien 02-22-2006, 09:50 PM A lot of tuners have race gas in stock.

I was under the impression that when you add leaded fuel to unleaded, the lead acts on the unleaded, makes the math a little different. Wouldn't you be getting something closer to 105?
110 TurboBlue here is about $4.50 the last I checked, but I have not bought any since December.
skywatcher 02-22-2006, 11:35 PM I can't find anything above 93 anywhere here.
VIR EURORALLY 02-23-2006, 02:08 AM I was at the max on a conservative tune with 93 octane at 18psi. On 110 I'm running 23.8psi.

That makes sense then. It's the boost that raised the HP, the fuel just allowed for those boost numbers to be reached without detonation. You get roughly 10whp per pound of boost.
The way I was reading what you posted was, you changed fuel and gained 70whp.
anyways
VIR EURORALLY 02-23-2006, 02:50 AM Yeah, the next thing I need to do is get an external wastegate setup and put on a larger compressor wheel and go a little higher on the boost.
wacerx 02-23-2006, 04:48 AM where are the socal guys getting 117? i know where the 100octane pumps are but im assuming you guys are talking about buying by the barrel. otherwise what pumps have 117?
