in the eyes of the insurance companies:

wrx sedan is a sports car (higher premium) while the wrx sport wagon is considered a station wagon.....heheheh, thought that was kind of cool...

DARN, I knew I should have got a WRX wagon instead of a 2.5RS sedan.. oh well, if I could change things, I would have got the wagon, the wagon looks cooler.

Where did you get this information?? I see in my first renewal that my insurance company has raised the rates on my WRX wagon due to claims history "on this model".

Yeah! For sure I thought they got me for the turbo and the AWD, but my premium didn't really go much higher than the Acura GSR that we had before the WRX.

I've got AAA and I'm listed as having a "Station Wagon"....One of my friends with a sedan is listed as having a sports car....Don't know if it's true for all insurance companies, but AAA doesn't know about it yet so I'm happy...:D

As a sedan owner, I think it is my duty to inform AAA of this....hehehe.

Has anybody heard of a wrx wagon getting totalled?
I've seen a couple posts about rear-ended wagons on I-club but no massive wrecks like for the sedan.

The wagon might deserve a lower risk rating :(

All I know is that my insurance went up almost $600/year when we traded in my wife's '93 Mazda 626 for the WRX Wagon.

Insuring these cars is not cheap. :D

Insuring these cars is not cheap.

Even with the increase I'm still only paying $300 for 6 months with 100/300 liability, 250 ded collision and no deductible for comprehensive. That's only $50 a month which is not too bad..:D

Mine's about the same, $54/month. Same coverage.

What!? I was told whether it's a wagon or sedan, the "turbo" was the decider on insurance costs...i.e., the wagon is considered a sports car.

Then I suppose the Audi A4 Avant with the 1.8T engine is a "sports car"?? Or a old Mercedes 300TD? Luckily the insurance companies don't always consider forced induction a reason to place a car into increased risk.

And from what I've seen on the forums and newsgroups, it really does seem the accidents are happening to the sedans. I'd sure love to see the demographic breakdown on sedan vs wagon owners for the WRX. I have suspicions it would be very disparate on age.

Mine is listed as a station wagon and I don't feel a bit cheated not having a turbo. :)

OMG, where do you live, who is your Insurance company and how old are you? AAA is robbing me blind!

Don't put too much stock in what insurance companies classify your vehicle as. My Syclone (hopped up S-15) is listed on my AFLAC statement as a "muscle car."

Someone asked about a totaled wagon, so I'll post this link again:

Those are pictures of my wagon when I bought it. It really didn't take a very hard hit for the insurance company to consider it totaled.

In the past State Farm didn't distinguish between Impreza wagons and sedans, so I doubt that company will do so now.

Wow, some of you guys have it good. I wish Chicago's rates were as low as OREGON or UTAH.

Sheesh.

I remember when I moved to Chicago from Baltimore. My rates instantly doubled. Then we moved into an apartment in a bad zip code (just down the street from the old one), and our rates went up another 30%. Owning a home in a decent zipcode now keeps it within the realm of reason.

Before thinking that the insurance company is personally honoring you with a great rate, thank your zip code first.

They wanted $400/mo for me. I'm 20 with a perfect driving record. I could have swung it, but I want to live in my townhouse rather than my car. My RS is only $140/mo. $50 more /mo than my 1990 Accord, which I still have as well. $3500 if anyone wants to take it off my hands.

What happened, Wrecked? I think that might be the first totaled wagon that I've seen.

I'm paying about $100 more every 6 months than you for my wagon, Alan, registered in Highland Park, a snotty suburb north of Chicago. Although it's apparently going to go down, because I'm in a lower-risk zip code than Evanston.

Sounds like between the rate decrease for HP, and the increase for buttheads, I should be right about where I am now, which is about $800 per year.

I'm 20, perfect driving record, good student discount, live in WA, and am paying somewhere in the ballpark of $250/mo for my car (02RS). I can't wait till I'm that magical age of 25...

It's not a magic age of 25... I'm only 23, with a non-perfect driving record, and my WRX insurance is $950 every 6 months. Not the best number, but considering 5 tickets to my name and two fender-benders I think I got off lucky.

You all don't know how UN-lucky some of us Wagon owners are. I am 31 and have a perfect driving record. I only have 50/100 with full glass and a $500 deductible and I get nailed for $1621.30 per 6 months with a $341.00/ per 6 months "performance" surcharge included from Geico ($3242.60/yr total) . All others wanted between 4 and 5 grand. I line in NY, but gimme a break cities like LA and Miami are just as bad for theft and bad drivers.... lolol

And my registration list the vehicle as a "suburban" . Explain that?

After the year is up I am going to search for a cheaper carrier but I still think I will be forced to pay through the nose...

I am paying about 1600 for 6 months living in Queens, Married and over 25. When I bought the car, I was only paying about 1250 but some private company that rates cars for Geico decided to jack the the class up and hence the price increase.
Tell them that you have window etching and thats 5% off.
You have to show proof though.
Wagon or sedan makes no difference in insurance cost, my brother drives the Sedan, Mello yello and he lives near by.

NYWRX, NYS registration lists all station wagons as SUBN and sedans as 4DSD.

They at least could've spelled Subaru right though (SUBRA).
