I have used that engine in a R/C airplane years ago... expensive... DAMN expensive, but just like our engines, very high power.

with some modifications it could be used as a Car engine (overheating would be the biggest issue since the engine was made for havinga BIG fan spinning constantly infront of it and not under high stress applications)

I just thought, if you were to make a cool scale Flat 4 Boxer Subie R/C this would be the engine to use :)
The price for this engine ALONE on Tower Hobbies is 1200$.

its RPM range of 1800 - 8500 is VERY close to our engines :)

Well you could always water jacket the heads and go that route.

that would be so incredibly heavy and throw off any sort of weight distrubtion on the car. Heck, a one cylinder motor was bad enough. I loved the top-end of my Nitro Yokomo, but my electric one would run rings around it in the twisties. Hey, that's familiar. lol

That would be cool for someone to custom fab up a car around that flat 4.. I was thinking the same thing while perusing my latest Tower hobbies catalog.

I'm also dying for someone to do something with that .30 sized Wankel rotary that OS makes :)

to use that motor the scale of the model would have to be like 1/5 or so.. so it would be a BIG car, and heavy...

I used to have an RC10GT with a little .10 in it (was it a 0.10? or a .12? I forget..been a while!). It was cool, but the damn thing never started! ARGH! I'll stick to electrics....

They take a lil TLC some times to get them to run, and if you over heat them, they vapor lock real easy...

anyone remember the like, 1.2 cu. in. engine that OS made that was supercharged. That was friggen cool. lil tiny forced induction ;)

2.5HP S/C'd that would be 1.9HP without the S/C and it spinns to 10kRPM :)

Don't use water to cool a flat-4. Do what Porsche used to do - use the oil (lots of it with an oil cooler).

well in these engines the oil is all in the gas, ( even though they are 4cycle, they use the castor oil in the fuel to lubricate the engine and the unburnt alcohol in the fuel cool it.)

i don't think its possible to fit that engine in a RC car. just looking at it you can aready tell its too big and it probably weigh's too much throwing the RC car off balance. that engine probably has too much torque. it will be destroying gears like crazy. then again i'm just guessing. can someone prove me worng and ram this engine into a RC car?

Hey, then it'd be just like a real Impreza, too much torque and shreading gears. ;) :lol:

getting gears to hold it wouldnt be an issue, its getting a clutch to hold, and lock at such a low RPM that would be the issue most cyn. clutches that normal R/C cars use need 4000 - 5000 RPM to hold... and thats with a lower power engine ( .5HP) This beast of an engine would torch any existing clutch before it made it to the top of the first gear.

it would not be hard to make a 5sp automaticly shifting tranny, but it would be hard to get a drive train as a whole to hold all that power going to 3 Diff's.

the car would be huge, and would need some weight in the back tou counter ballance it ( fuel tank, battery pack, etc..) Would need to be completely custom built from chassis, tranny, everything.. it would be a 7000$ car by the time you are done, and would still be slower than a Serpent Impact AWD 1/8th scale onroad car.

Yeh I have seen a Conley V8 running.. its SO cool... but like ... 3000$ more expensive than I can afford :) They got a reproduction Viper V10 also :)
