View Full Version : New AP user. I have a few questions...

I recently received my AP and immediately flashed stage 2 the minute I got home from work. The only thing I can say is that I can believe I waited this long to get one. Wow!

Anyway on to the questions.
After a spirited run last night, boost creep is still present.
I know that this is a debated subject on how to cure the problem. I know one of my options is porting the wastegate.

1) Has anyone used the LWG Stage 2 map to (successfully) cure boost creep? Or will I need to do a combination of using this map and porting?

I have read that Cobb recommends using the stock airbox and no aftermarket intakes.

2) Will using my intake (Blitz SUS) cause any problems while using the AP? If so, what problems can it cause & should I put the stock airbox back on? Is their recommendation there only to boost sales of their own intake?

Thanks

I went with a high flow catted Helix d/p, and don't have boost creep.

I have the Cobb catless and i'd prefer not to switch any parts.

How are you verifying that you have boost creep? Be detailed, as your answer will determine what the fix is.

Boost is spiking to roughly 21-22 psi and i'm getting CEL P0244

Did you already try the Stage2-LWG map from Cobb? There's a good chance that will solve your issue.

I would try everything you can try BEFORE you port to make sure the problem really is that you need a ported wastegate. There are a lot of issues that arise from wastegate porting and it is irreversible so you want to make that your LAST option.

I am using a Helix Catless with Greddy Evo2 exhaust and I am having the same problem as you, CEL P0244.

No, I haven't tried the LWG Stage 2 map yet. I was trying to get some feedback from others users to see if this map cured their boost creep problems. I bought my AP used and didn't get the 9 pin serial cable, so I'll be heading to get one this weekend to update some maps on the AP.

Porting is definitely my last option. I was hoping the the map will fix it. If not, what problem can arise from porting the wastegate?
Thanks

Well, these are some problems I've seen with ported wastegates:

-slow boost response
-not reaching full boost target
-low power overall

Keep in mind, these problems are normally associated with a wastegate that has been overported or otherwise improperly done... but it's very easy to mess up and again, it's usually not necessary as the problem lies in the ECU mapping most of the time.

I agree with nhluhr 100%. My STi loves to boost (500ft above sea level) on 93 and K&N Typhoon. however. . 1st experienced boost spiking on Stg 1-93 with stock air box. Cobb addressed the issue by making the LWG maps. The LWG map works really good for me. Im Stg 2-93 v1.10 as BASE and running the LWG as realtime over with great results. Cobb CATTED down-pipe with Borla STi cat-back.
So . .dont port your wasgate!!!! Mines not!!! Cobb will tell you , dont need to and doesnt recommend it. The AP will def help alot.. .Make sure you D/L the latest versions and the New V1.65 software. Try the LWG and give it couple tanks as the ECU will learn. If you see boost getting up there 18+. . simply letoff. . .. (cold temps dont help either. .if you in those climates)

The LWG maps were specifically designed to address this issue, I would try that first.

From my experience, I would highly recommend you install the stock air box. Trying to establish a calibration for the SUS has been unsuccessful. I also believe that intake does not properly filter elements from the air. You can have your engine oil analyzed and have the silicon/contaminants PPM or % compared to that of oil with a stock air box and filter (or any other proper air filter) to be certain.

Take care,
Christian.

I flashed the lwg stage 2 map last night. I had few spirited pulls this morning on the way to work. At first I thought the creep was gone. Then on the second pull, the beast reared it's ugly head. Of course this morning was in the low 30's. I'm not sure if i'll still have the creeping when it warms up. I guess i'm going to have to port the wastegate after all. Damn!

Oh yeah, the stock air box is back on as well. It actually runs smoother.

I'd give the ECU a couple hundred miles of normal driving and test again.

It needs some time to learn. (especially if you only used realtime)
