View Full Version : what to get
VEGETA_GT 09-24-2001, 10:21 AM I have been looking around for about 2 years now for what car to buy. But now it’s coming rather close to buying time but still have not narrowed it down completely. Now since I am here the Subaru’s are in the lineup. I love the wrx and rs, always have, but the wrx is going to be just over the price range. Insurance and bs like that. But the RS seams just right, but still wants to run things buy people. Honda is out; hey they are a dime a dozen. Looked at the z24 (new version coming soon). I have driven my friends with a sway bar in it, its fun to drive. The golf and the jetta are nice cars to. Have taken them for a test run.
Now I am planning on doing work to any car I get to personalize it, some speed, but lots of audio and looks. But what keeps bringing me back to Subaru is the all AWD. To get the other cars to handle like that you need a sway bar put in. Any suggestions are helpful and any info on pricing is also good.
Thanks VEGETA_GT
And yes I am in the Toronto area :D
dbrier 09-24-2001, 02:13 PM You might want to check out the new Nissan Sentra SER V-Spec.
They should be out soon and will have pretty good performance for under $20,000.
VEGETA_GT 09-24-2001, 02:16 PM Well if it looks anything like the lower moel ones, I think I will pass. I like the look of the Rs. >:)=
Kostamojen 09-25-2001, 04:36 AM Get the '02 RS!!!
HydeX 09-25-2001, 05:36 AM Subaru AWD all the way you wont regret it. And the good thing with buying a subaru now is that there is a good amount of aftermarket products avaliable
If you could possibly stretch your budget to get the WRX I highly recommend it. I could go on for pages on why to buy the WRX. But if you can't the 2.5 RS is the next best thing. Believe me the AWD is no gimmic, it is incredible. In the rain you will hardly know the road is wet, and you will feel very safe. If you have snow to deal with, well you see where I am going. For the money the 2.5 RS is an incredible value IMO. I have only driven my cousins, so I'll let the RS owners sell you on them some more.
Now a for the Jetta. My mom has a 2001 GLS VR6, and it is much nicer than I would have ever imagined. Its price falls in between the RS and the WRX, so you have to factor that in. It has tons of power all over. As soon as you hit the gas you feel the great torque pushing you into your seat. Like night and day with the WRX really. The interior is nicer then the two Subarus, you can feel the quality and it the luxery of it, and it is such a pleasure to be in. The stock sound system is much better then the upgraded WRX system. It is a good looking car, although Jettas seem to be a dime a dozen as well. The car is very fun to drive, it handles great. I think you can even get a sportier suspension as an option. I don't like the looks of the Golfs.
Test drive them all before you decide, but remeber a mere test driive could be biased to show only certain qualitys of a cars ability and qualities. For example, the Jetta's quality interior and low RPM power might be very apparent, whereas the WRX's great higher RPM power and superior handleing won't come out.
J Colman 09-25-2001, 01:41 PM Dont get a Z24, I had one in 96. Yeah, the year is defferent, but the company it comes from is still the same. I traded that thing in for my RS and it was the best thing I ever did. The RS was faster, handled a million times better and was nicer inside and out. The Cavalier had problem after problem and all the dealer could say was "Yeah, that's just how they are made, mine does that too." I swear mine was put together on a Friday afternoon right around quittin time, because it was a POS.
whtstr 09-25-2001, 03:07 PM RS should just do fine, AWD, affordable, nice looking, practical, low insurance rate. it's unbeatable!
VEGETA_GT 09-25-2001, 11:54 PM Well soon going for a test drive, but the Rs is the highest on the list. It got such a good look to it (atleast to me) and from what I hear handles extreamealy well
I will post when I get a Car

KillerTHC 09-26-2001, 02:48 AM it's gonna take a lot more than a sway bar to get a car to handle like an RS. even after all that work, you can put a little into the RS and it will out hanle most heavily moded cars. as for speed, the RS's aren't that slow. a stock RS should be able to take most non-turboed compacts and a few domestics. add a little rain, and the RS is only going to lose to a more expensive car with AWD. RS's are the perfect balance of power and handling IMHO.
