Guys, I am having some trouble figuring out how I am going to do data logging with a wideband o2 sensor. My current setup includes a COBB AccessPort and a full set of PDX maps. I do NOT have the Street Tuner software yet but I plan on purchasing it at some point in the future. So far I have been data logging with ecuExplorer (http://www.tari.co.za/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl) and everything is working fine. As I am sure you have guessed the main shortcoming of this solution is the inability to plot accurate AFRs without an after-market wideband o2 sensor. At the recommendation of a friend who tunes Saturns I decided to purchase a LC-1 Wideband o2 sensor and controller cable from Innovative motor sports. (http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/lc1.php)

The LC-1 has not arrived yet but I would like to put a data logging solution together asap. My goal is to end up with a single CSV based log that contains all the logged data including the wideband o2 sensor output. I Can only come up with two scenarios to accomplish my goal and I question if either one is going to work. I am very opened to any suggestions and/or solutions that other people have successfully deployed.

Option 1 - Splicing the LC-1s simulated narrowband o2 sensor output into the factory ECU's narrowband input.

I know that logging wont be an issue with this option because it will work just like it does now. However, I question the accuracy and resolution of the narrowband simulator. Will this setup work with my car setup exactly the way it is now? Will I be able to accurately my AFRs with this kind of setup? Does anybody have a wiring diagram for splicing the LC-1 into the factory o2 harness?

Option 2 - Leaving the factory o2 sensor as is and welding a second bung in my exhaust for the wideband o2 sensor.

I would need to connect two serial cables to my laptop and data log from each. Once cable would come from the wideband o2 sensor controller's serial output and the other would come from the car's OBD-II port. Since I would be pulling data from two sources at the same time I assume that I would need some kind of software solution to splice the information into the same log. Can this be done? Can anybody explain how I could do this?

Again, I am opened to anything. Thanks in advance!

Christian.

I you use the StreetTUNER software in the future you should be able to datalog using several different external WBO2 sensors, Innovative LM-1 & LC-1, PLX M-300 & R-500, AEM UEGO, Zeitronix Zt-2, etc. Here is a link to the latest .dll files = http://www.wrxforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=000289

Please follow the directions Jon has written for using these files. Let me know if you have any other external devices you would like us to work with?

Take care,
Christian.

Christian,

Well its good to know that I will be covered once I get the Street Tuner. I am honestly about a year away form that so I need some kind of solution to work with my current setup. Thanks for your info.

Do you have plans on releaseing an official driver for the AEM UEGO?

I started writing my own but never finished. I just never had the time.

If you guys were to support it officially, that would be awesome :)

Until you get streettuner you can use the innovate logworks software to log their devices. You're going to end up with two seperate logs though. You might consider some of their other devices (LMA-2 or LMA-3) so you can get some redundant data like RPM. Then both logs will have RPM and be easier to match up. The sampling rate probably won't match though.

It shouldn't be that difficult for the ecu explorer guys to add the ability to read these devices. The manufactures are happy to provide the tools to incorporate their data stream into other software.

I assumed that the sampling rate would be an issue. I attempted to explain this to somebody and they had no clue what I was talking about.

Any other software out there to do data logging?

Just a little headsup. I am in possession of an R-500 and Street Tuner and with an intake, different exhaust, and a bigger tmic, we'll be doing a write up for Modified Magazine soon on how they all work on my stg 2.5 04 WRX. We're just waiting on the tmic to arrive and we'll be good to go.

Watch for it in Modified Magazine in the next couple months.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to see if there were any current solutions to this?

From what I can tell, EcuExplorer doesn't support the LC-1 yet.

I believe EcuEdit does, but I want to see what other options are available before I spend the $50 to get the registered logging version.

Thanks

Thanks.
I ended up just buying EcuEdit to simplify things. It's actually a pretty nice logging utility that has support for the LC1, so I can get all the data in one log file w/o any extra work.
