majunche66 03-01-2006, 12:33 AM I'm just installing my accessport on my 2004 sti... I did everything as said on the manul and when it gets to initialize the accessPort it progress 2 dots and then repeat the message turn off and fully on.. or something like that... i already check the process again repeated.. reset the factory ecu... i looked for the ecu part number and it is 241... i still cannot get the problem resolved... what should i do....??
ADR 04STi 03-01-2006, 12:41 AM Green test connectors??? AP new or used?.. make sure its for an 04STi (look on back of AP). . need more info.

Huh???
You should not be getting a menu if its a new accessport. it should go directly into the "choose a base map" phase.
Passenger test connectors?
Connect green connectors, Plug in, choose a map, turn car to on position, press start, wait... and wait... and wait... then done.
hondaeater69 03-01-2006, 09:17 AM the only question i see is "what should i do", i don't understand what problem you are actually having.
majunche66 03-01-2006, 10:05 AM ok.. here is the thing... after i do everything the test mode.. and all that stuff.. when i plug the conector in the obdII port... i get that message... select base map... i select the map... turn the key to off position then to on `position and then OK...!!! Then it says initializing it start showing dots to show progress... but it stops when there are two dots progress and then after 30 segs it goes back to the screen that says turn the off and fully on...
Any ideas what could happen?.. thank you
hondaeater69 03-01-2006, 10:31 AM it will time out if you don't press OK to start flashing after turning the car off then on again, you're not waiting are you?

I don't understand.. can you please explain me..? thank you
parker/slc/gc8fan 03-01-2006, 11:27 AM Maybe you shuld call Cobb when you are with your car.
i'll bet they can figure it out.
My bet is on a cable being replaced.
Is your car getting into test mode? (cel flashing and radiator fans cycling)
hondaeater69 03-01-2006, 11:57 AM I don't understand.. can you please explain me..? thank you
after you turn your car back into the 'on' position you have a limited amount of time to start the flashing process before the AP will "time out".
lordzappo 03-01-2006, 12:16 PM My access port gave me the "unable to communicate with ECU" message at about the same time in the process that you are getting your error message. after several months of tribulation(including sending back to cobb twice) it turned out that they put the WRX programming module into an STi outer shell of the device. So even though i had an STi serial number, its innards were incorrect.
While my problem is not exactly the same as yours, I would suggest that if you have called their customer service and you have done the following steps:
a) get a new cable from Cobb
b) get a firmware update from Cobb Tuning Customer Service (801-713-8035)
c) updated to latest map manager and set of maps
and it still isn't working, send it back to them for a full diagnostic. Make sure that they know the steps you have taken(type up a short, clear, report) and ask them to check the device over physically to confirm it is operating normally and is not wacked out in anyway.

*edit* I just realized its kind of weird to have cobb tuning on speed dial in your cel phone.

I called cobb they told me to replace the cable.. But the thing is that the car when enter in test mode (cel flashing and radiator fans cycling) and when the AP is initializing the test mode stops.. then it send me back to turn off and fully on again..!!
Do you thing is the cable? The problem is that i am in south america.. i it is difficult to me to send it from here... i have a cable that is the din-9 to obdII but it uses all the pins? can i try with that one? thank you
ADR 04STi 03-01-2006, 12:35 PM majunche66 :Try this. . in this order please. Start from scratch. Unhook everything. Shut off anything powered. . (radar det., dome light, fan etc ) Do NOt put ign key in yet. . leave out.
1. Plug in green test connectors under drivers side dash.
2. Plug AP cable to AP. . make sure to tighten the little screws. . .I wrap the excess cable around shifter. . so that it wont pull out of OBD2. . .THEN plug other end into the OBD2 plug. . making sure it feels secure.
3. AP should power up now.
4. Now put ign key in to ign. . and turn to "on" position. . .Do NOT START!!!!!!
5. Should be in test mode (dash lights blinking, fans on & off. . clicking in glove box area)
6. Select on AP. . ."change base map".. . then press OK (large round button). Now your asked to turn back key to OFF position and back to ON position (never start it)
7. This is when the AP will show intitializing ECU. . . . . . . . .blinking dots and fans will stop. . dash lights will stop blinking and should be silent as AP & ECU are starting to marrying.
8. AP will show progrees indicator in % ( 50% etc) blinking dots and some codes (cpu jibber jabber). ..
9. This should take app 10-15 min to flash base.
10. AP will tell you when its done... I think you have to press OK on AP first
11. Now youll have to turn key back to OFF pos and back to ON once more to complete it.
12. Now you can load a realtime map over the base if desired.
13. Before step 6. . .try and select on AP.. show current map? Im curious if the Base may have worked from you trying it. . if I did work. . it will tell you what map is selected.
14. In this order :Remove ign key. . .unplug OBD2 from under steering column, unplug cable from AP and finally go back under drivers dash and disconnect the green test connectors.
15. Put key into ign. .. turn to ON position. . . I always give it a second and turn on your STi.
16. Thats if everything worked.
17. Good Luck
18. Now that I seen your in South America. . .AP may not be compatible. Make sure to let Cobb know this (BTW. . did you post something like this on the Cobb WRX forum). . this sounds fimilar to me?????
19. hi "HC". . ."The STi"
majunche66 03-01-2006, 01:01 PM My access port gave me the "unable to communicate with ECU" message at about the same time in the process that you are getting your error message. after several months of tribulation(including sending back to cobb twice) it turned out that they put the WRX programming module into an STi outer shell of the device. But the thing is that the AP communicate with the ECU.. It initialize because i hear that fan stop cycling and the check engine light stop.. but then it goes back to turn the car off and fully on.. but i do not get the message that i cannot communicate with ECU... So i don't know if still the cable is the issue or the firmware..
I've noticed something when i start the AP is says 2004 impreza wrx.. i does not says any sti or 2.5... however in the back of the AP says 2004 sti.. So I don't know if that can be an issue...

I do not have that option of show current map... because the Ap have never been married with the ECU.. but still i am going to try the steps you gave me...
And in respect of being in Venezuela the car was bought in the US and brought here... So i do not thing that's the issue... Even I checked the part number for the ECU and is compatible with the one than cobb gave me...
ADR 04STi 03-01-2006, 02:43 PM OK. . .running out of idea's. Sounds to me. . defective cable or wrong AP then? I really dont know. So its an North America Subie just shipped to you. That shouldnt matter. Id call Cobb or email SEAN@Cobb. . hes their AP software guy and helped me out bigtime and solved my AP-PC sync problem.
Hope this helps: sean@cobbtuning.com
Well Good Luck.
majunche66 03-01-2006, 03:01 PM thank you man... Let me call cobb to see what they can do for me...!!!
majunche66 03-01-2006, 05:57 PM i called the guys on cobbtuning and they came up that the problem was that they installed the wrong software on the AP.. They told me to send back the unit to them so they can reprogram it. What do you think?
JRSCCivic98 03-01-2006, 06:24 PM What do you think?
Typical Cobb... send it back. Gota love that QC. Ask for a free TShirt or something for your troubles. ;)
JxOxExY 03-01-2006, 06:31 PM Did you plug in the little white connector (that came with the AP) into the connector near the green ones?
JRSCCivic98 03-01-2006, 06:37 PM ^^^ STI's don't have those.
mrbell 03-01-2006, 07:49 PM Do you have a USDM STi? If you don't, the AP will not work for you. The AccessPORT available from Cobb is currently for US models only.
