I traded my RS at 17k miles, under the 36k where the ext warranty was to begin.
The shop I bought the RS said to send them a copy of the bill of sale and a signed notice w/ vin and mileage stating I wanted out.
That was over 2 months ago and I find out today I needed to contact the bank where I had the loan... at least that's what the dealership said.
Am I going about this wrong? Should I call Subaru America?

Call SOA(1-800-SUBARU3) and ask for the Subaru Extended Care (800) number. THey are the ones you need to talk to. Very helpful.

I successfully cancelled my Extended Warranty. I approached my local dealership only to have them say I needed to speak with the company I orignally bought the car from. While I figured they were just being lazy, I went to the company I bought the car from anyhow. We filled out paperwork and after about 1-1.5 months, the amount was refunded back to my existing loan account. I believe I did need to show the bill of sale to prove when I bought the car, however.

I canceled my extended warranty on my Legacy when I bought my WRX.
I took the paperwork to the dealer I bought the GT from and talked to the finance guy. He said I needed to have some other form so I called the lady that sold me my WRX. She said he was full of crap and just didn't want to give me my money back. So I told this to the guy (in nicer words) and they sent me some money back. (I was partually on the extended warranty so I didn't get the full ammount back but that is fine with me.)
So in short, go back to the stealership and demand your money because you do not own the car anymore AND tell them if they do not you will call Subaru and tell them. :) I think they will find your money pretty quick.

It's amazing how the dealerships are trying to screw around with the cancellation of extended warranties. I tried to cancel one on my motorcycle. 1 Year after I send in my initial letter (3 in total) they still haven't refunded the money. Turns out that the plan was run by GE Financial Services who refunded the money to the dealership I bought the bike from 6 months back. Tight a$$ dealership is giving me the runaround on refunding the cash. The initial purchase was a cash deal so they have no reason to hold onto the check.

Cycle city of erie. I'd never buy another vehicle from them.
