so i have a used rev6b utec that worked on my car for about a week. after some wot runs , i got a misfire of cyl #3 (i also got the code pulled). the car had all the symptoms of a misfire. when i removed the utec, and ran my car on the stock ecu , my car runs like a champ. so i brought my utec up to turboxs to be looked at and heres the options they gave me

-they said, they cant pin point that theres anything wrong with my utec right... (keep in mind i just paid $600 for this used utec and it worked for a week) they are willing to give me a brand new one out of the box for $400 and they keep my old utec, or i can take back my old utec.. sell it and get im hoping $600 for it, and get a new utec being around $300 short or get cobb AP. They said they wont replace it cause i dont have the original reciept and im not the original owner, but the product is basically malfunctioning.. so shouldnt they replace it for free??

What maps are you running on the utec? Have you tried to flash it and put the base map in? What mods was it tuned for by the original owner?

dude... it was completely cleared, and we loaded on the stg2 maps. my friend who had the utec before was running stg4++ , he had a vf37 or vf35 , one of the twin scrolls. we cleared the maps before using it.. thats not the problem, i think its an internal problem... like something inside broke

Maybe your friend still has the original receipt and can help you out. If you really think its broke selling for 600 bucks would be bad karma.

Have you checked your spark plugs? Whats the AFR? I have heard the base maps are really rich which could cause a misfire.

If your not willing to try it again I would say you probally have to bite the bullet and pay for a new one, maybe your friend will help you out?

i was leaning towards buying a new utec... im willing to get it because ill keep the receipt and it will be under warranty. my car is brand new dude. less than 11k... my car runs like a champ on stock ecu. its not my car obviously by that statement. my car only runs like its on 3 cyl cause of the faulty utec IMO. thanks for the help but it didnt get me anywhere and tomorrow im just gunna go up to txs and buy the utec if they have any in stock

if you have a malfunctioning UTEC that you plan on selling on here, that is one shady way to do business. also, i will probably have to point out this thread if i see it for sale on here.

thats just not cool

If its misfiring all the time then it might be the UTEC but if you only got one misfire like you stated in your OP then its probalby to rich at some point.

Good Luck

what happens when the utec is installed and on map 0 (stock mode)?

I believe the warranty on a UTEC is only for 1 year, so if your UTEC is older than that you're definitely out of luck. If your UTEC is newer than one year, the warranty might not be transferable.

If either case is true, you're out of luck.

That said, I definitely feel your pain. I have a UTEC sitting on the table in my dining room that has a bad serial port. I bought it used, and basically, TXS offered to sell me a refurb unit at a discount.

So I just installed my used UTEC (this isn't the first one I've installed in my lifetime either.) IMy car runs perfectly without the UTEC. Right after I installeed it I set it on "0" stock mode and it runs like complete garbage, like it's only firing on a couple of cylinders! I've heard this is always an internal problem with the UTEC... so am I really screwed??? Any help or thoughts?? Thanks in advance, sorry to bring up an old thread.

Double-check the Parameters file, and try datalogging, posting the results here. It could be a errant value in the parameters file. Also, doublecheck that you have the correct UTEC for your particular car model and year.

And double check that the UTEC is grounded.

Yeah, I redownloaded the parameters off of TurboXS' website and saved them onto the UTEC. I deleted all the maps and redownloaded just the stage2 base map. The UTEC is rev6b: I have an 02 so no problems there... The guy I bought it from did not have the original TurboXS grounding wire but I made my own. Would it really matter if I used the original TXS grounding wire??? It doesn't seem like enough to justify the car running on a few cylinders... any other help or suggestions??? Thanks guys, keep the help coming.

It's just a piece of wire, as long as it is installed correctly.

Haha yeah sorry about bringing it back up... but I they guys at TurboXS told me to reload 5.8 software and see if that fixes it... I won't have time until later but I'll let you all know if it does anything... thanks.
