View Full Version : My quest for 10's....Pics and write-up
Peeblesmx445 03-07-2006, 06:55 PM My name is Wes Peebles and Im in the middle of building my purpose built WRX.
Im 20 yrs old and every penny for the purchase of this car and put into this car was earned by myself. All the work except for tranny assembly and shortblock assembly has and will be done by me.
My ultimate goal is to have a light weight drag wrx that will run low 11's on pump fuel and 10's on race gas+a lil spray. :D
The car has been down since November 2004. -it is now April 2007:lol:
Now as I am young and dumb I still am gonna need the help of all you great NASIOC people as I put this baby back together...Hope you dont mind sharing some knowledge...
UPDATE: 4-13-06.
PDX Tuning has stepped up and will be sponsoring the project. All tuning will be done by PDX in Oregon.
4-18-06:Also want to say thanks to Kyle at JSC Speed for VERY good pricing on the parts I bought from him.
Huge thank you to Dan at DPR. He has really pressed this build to the next level with his outstanding headwork.

Yes. The RCM WRX is a very well-built car although I am not going to get that crazy with this car and shoot for 800hp or 9's. Thanks for the advise. I have come across that car many times. Very impressive.....

BALISTC 03-10-2006, 04:34 AM VERY nice.
Good to see a kid who works hard for their money, and is doing things the RIGHT way, on your own!
I'm heading down this path at the moment also, but I'm a little bit older, at 22 years of age!
Its very obvious that you've been reading NASIOC carefully and have gotten some decent advice along the way.
Good luck with the build, and keep us updated!!!!!

no-coast-punk 03-12-2006, 02:58 PM Just watch your IDC's. The 850's with the additional delivery from the wet system will probably be able to handle the fueling... but it'll be close.
Where do you live? I know some pretty excellent fabricators in some pretty far flung spots of the country.

JonofScio 03-27-2006, 08:29 AM which turbo are you going with, and why have you thought about that one? I didn't see you mention a specific turbo.... just a 65lb/min one.

Peeblesmx445 03-27-2006, 08:55 PM Are you going to put a cage in it? Good luck on the project.
Yes, but I have recently found out that NHRA SC rules state only a "roll bar" is needed for cars as low as 10.00 as long as the firewall and floorboards are unmoddified. So I will prolly be just going w/ a weld-in roll bar and a 5-point harness.

I have my eye on a number of kits. Actually you will notice I havent stated ANY brand name in this post because I refuse to advertise for any company that hasnt helped me out durring this project. Yes I take my pics but you wont hear their name out of my mouth or in this thread. I used to spend $60,000+ a year racing mx bikes all over the states and none of the money came out of my pocket. All of it was sponsors money. I was good at what I did, I advertised for them and in return they payed my way...Its called VALUE EXCHANGE.
So as long as Im on my own with this project then I will keep companies names to myself. Thousands of thousands of people are on this site and make HUGE purchases with these companies based on advertisment from other members with what they have on their can and how much power, or how fast it went in the 1/4. Not fair to the cars owner if you ask me. Companies make BANK off the advertising capabilities of this site and pay absoulutely nothing for it. ;) I will say that JSC Speed has given me some killer pricing on all my parts from them. Thanks for that Kyle.

i agree with you 100%, to many times companys refuse to sponsor because too many a-holes have a shopping list on the side of there cars.... while privateers like you and i suffer..... anyway good luck with the project

Peeblesmx445 03-28-2006, 02:33 AM So you made a lot of money winning mx races?

I made some. But my whole life was racing motocross and it was ALL payed for so I was happy with the situation. I never really had a bunch of pocked money to spend on new shoes or anything like that, but like I said, I ran a HUGE bill up every year getting to races, new bikes, lodging, training, parts, ect. And It was all taken care of from the many sponsors I had. I had a lot of pressure on me and got burned out and decide to take a little time off and this where Im at right now with it all. Working my a$$ off, making money, paying bills and dumping whats left into this car. Right now Im a parts mananger at a local mx shop. Definetly not what I want to do w/ my life but its gettin the job done right now while im still young.

Are you planning on using OEM brakes? I don't know if that's the best idea. Think of at least a 4 pot that can fit under the 16" stock wheels if you want that look.
I run the 12.2 Wilwood Dynapros and they really aren't that noticable under the stock wheels (especially when they are coated in brake dust :) )
Just a suggestion.

I think what you are doing is great...But i do disagree with you on not naming parts. Companies go through thousands and thousands of dollars to do the research and development of products so you dont have to. There are a lot of people on this forum who would like to know what parts you are using, and if i were in your position i would let them know if i came across a good part as a curtesy for my fellow subaru owners. When i install a part that i like i let everyone know because i am appreciative of the good job that the company did. I think it would be selfish of me to want money from a company just so i will say what parts i am using. Just my .2 cents. Good luck with everythign you are doing! YOu will deff hit 10s if all goes as planned.

While that is a valid point I still stand where I did previously. If a company wants to step up and give me some support and good pricing on parts then I would be more than happy to share it with the 100,000+ NASIOC members. I am appreciative of the great products these companies make, I just dont feel like doing them a favor and telling thousands of people when in turn they did no more for me than they would have for a joe blow who ISNT spending tons of money build a car that will prolly see alot of publicity in the future. If you have ever been sponsored you would understand. Sorry to you NASIOC members who feel in the dark about the specifics of my set-up. Theres plenty of other threads floating around to gain knowledge off of besides mine :p
On a lighter note.... I cant wait to get this car done!

tmarcel 04-04-2006, 07:04 PM Yah peebles, I'm with you. I don't like naming parts either - unless I really believe in them. I name my pistons because Wiseco has been awesome "customer service-wise". I name UTEC just to give people an idea of what I've got to work with (tuning or can you say a band-aid for now). And, of course I do like Garrett and I've got no problem naming their products! Anything else and...nahhh! I actually should begin naming my machinist too since I've been treated soo well! But that'll be a little off topic ;)

I think almost any STI that gadiel has tuned into the 10's was on a UTEC, and there have been I believe atleast 2.

gadiel was saying that anything over the 720whp that the BV sti was producing really becomes very difficult to tune with the utec, he was suggesting the hydra or aem, if im not mistaken, for any higher goals. but if your only using a 65lb./min turbo you should be ok.....

Ya, my car will never make 750whp so I think I have nothing to worry about.
Gadiel 04-06-2006, 07:55 PM I think almost any STI that gadiel has tuned into the 10's was on a UTEC, and there have been I believe atleast 2.
I have to correct this statment
Of all the car that I have tuned only one run 10sec on Utec and now no longer use UTEC.
If you want to run 10sec buy an Hydra or AEM.

Peeblesmx445 04-09-2006, 06:45 PM anybody think a crawford R4 would go good with this project? :p
gpatmac 04-09-2006, 06:49 PM umm....yeah!
I am in Quirt's corner, but if you have any doubts at all, due dilligence in research and a phone call or two to him should put your mind at ease.

think that would be a lil overkill on the street?
gpatmac 04-09-2006, 07:16 PM Define overkill.:) Yes, if you plan on daily driving it and are concerned with mileage and normal wear and tear on a race-prepped engine. No, in that you can still stay out of boost if you want to.
I don't have an R4, but I've got Quirt's pistons in my ej257 with an FP Green. It can get out of hand very quickly if I want to, but normal driving is normal driving.

gpatmac 04-09-2006, 07:59 PM Have you laid out a 'milestones' sort of schedule for yourself? I am following along, but that's a lesson learned on my part. I had tremendous involvement from a pretty large-sized, very knowledgable group of folks on here, but I think I would have garnered more direct attention had I drew up a schedule of where I want to be and when. My thread and my rebuild were both very long and painful to follow. Also, it would have put more pressure on me, from both peer and the clock.
Lastly, I'm curious if you've had a chance to drive someone's car that has a dogbox in it? I haven't but, probably like yourself, have heard that it definitely takes some getting used to. The reason I ask is because I felt that I needed a much stronger clutch and I opted for the Exedy Hypersingle because I found a great deal. However (and if the gentleman who sold it to me happens to read this, I know he'll get a chuckle) I don't know if I would have gone with a 'pucked' clutch disk if I knew then what I know now. It's even sprung, but boy it is either off or on. No in between.

As far a schedule goes I kinda dont have one. As the money comes in is my schedule  I want to have the motor broken in and the car tuned by hopefully July. I am gonna use those break-in miles to learn how to properly drive with the dogbox. I have studied up on rev matching and double clutching but Im sure hands on learning will do the most good. I also still need to do some resaerch on what clutch to get... those Exedy's are sure expensive and the car is ONLY driven on the weekends so Im not sure if im gonna spend tons of money on a clutch just to have it more daily driveable. Anybody got some suggestion for a clutch for this car?
ejsportcom 04-09-2006, 11:40 PM Anybody got some suggestion for a clutch for this car?
if you have the money go full carbon- carbon, but since your prolly like most of us out there you should just go with something like the SPEC stage 3+, its a full face so its easier to drive and its carbon-metallic like the puck clutchs so it handles the torque. Plus its not to expensive.....
White 2.5rs 04-09-2006, 11:46 PM I dont think the spec clutch is gonna hold for a 10 sec pass...im selling my spec stage III 4 puck because i dont feel its up to the task, but i do love the thing, the feel is amazing
InfamousDX 04-10-2006, 09:54 AM Surprisingly the element, axis car (700hp is the sn) went 10's all boost with the ACT STREET DISC. Can you believe that? I'm personally going with the sprung ACT 6 puck....
Also, an exedy twin plate has gone 10's via a PR car so I wouldn't count that out. About a grand less expensive than an exedy twin carbon. I made my clutch decision by people's actual results, not by what's supposed to happen.

Ya, I was originally leaning towards the ACT 6 puck. It just seems like for the price and the power it will hold its a good deal.
tcrown 04-11-2006, 02:06 AM While that is a valid point I still stand where I did previously.
You know if everybody acted like you, nasioc would completely suck as a resource for truly privateer people (people who don't have friends who are tuners, or know someone at a shop, or don't have money to pay someone else, etc)
While it's obviously your car, your money, and your physical parts, my guess is that a lot of the knowledge that you have gained and used to select your parts was because other people on this board shared their experiences and which parts and brands they used.
The companies whose parts you pick will probably be offering a quality part for a fair price, imo that's more than enough to reward them with 'publicity'. You're not screwing over the companies by not naming brands, you're screwing over fellow nasioc people like yourself.
Like you said, there are plenty of other threads with info...but if everyone took your position, that would not be true, and perhaps you wouldn't be building such an awesome car.

Gotta take advantage while i can, drugs and alcohol are for college
cdvma 04-19-2006, 01:42 PM What's the diff. between wet and dry?
Coolant. Dry sleves don't contact it whereas wet sleeves do (ie completely replace the stock sleves).
mick_the_ginge 04-19-2006, 01:42 PM Mick - I assume the sleeves are pressed and glued (?), and they look to be dry?
Block was heated and sleeves were glued and pressed in. Notice the shape of the sleeve. It has that huge lip at the top. The block was bored to match this lip so their is no chance of the sleeve to dropping.
What's the difference between "wet sleeves" and "dry sleeves"?
Wet Sleeves as the name implies, are surrounded by water when installed. The significant difference in sleeve design beyond the terms wet or dry are what structure within the cylinder carries the load. In a dry application they cylinder compressive force is carried by the sleeve AND the block. In a wet sleeve application the compressive force is totally supported by the sleeve. Therefore, by nature of application and intended use, wet sleeves must be very strong and mechanically able to withstand compressive and frictional forces throughout their total unsupported length.
Dry sleeves are named so because the sleeve body is not exposed to any cooling liquid within the block and is always installed in a block with an interference fit.
-//Quote from engine building site//-
These are wet sleeves.

I just found it interesting because the Honda H22A closed block that I'm building right now has 89mm LA brand sleeves in it. They're no where even close to the thickness that those in the above pics are. Of course, it being an I4 vs H4 makes a difference in the available space.

sumfoo1 04-21-2006, 06:51 PM closed deck blocks are stronger vs open right?
i'd like a crawford crank and block with the rest of the short block (or motor) being cosworth pieces
or is the billet stroker crank not worth it... i hear its supposed to rev well
cosworth also makes a billet crank but its not a stroker

Peeblesmx445 04-25-2006, 04:22 PM Someone talk to me about combustion chamber problems between JDM V7 2.0 heads and a 2.8L block... :D
anybody?
mick_the_ginge 04-25-2006, 04:32 PM What's the piston size of the 2.8L block? If bigger than a 2.5L you may have a head dome issue. The dome effects compression and burn. That's all I can think of.
tmarcel 04-25-2006, 05:01 PM Someone talk to me about combustion chamber problems between JDM V7 2.0 heads and a 2.8L block... :D
I 'm not sure that there would be a "problem". You probably could've requested a specific piston for that motor but that's hind sight now ;) I know on mine, I had 8.4:1 static CR spec'd for 2L heads on a 2.5L with 1mm over bore. I think CP (Crawford P.) usually goes on the low-end of CR where their pistons are concerned so you should be straight I would think. If those pistons should provide 8:1 with 2.5 heads you'll probably be at 8.4:1 or a little higher.
Peeblesmx445 04-25-2006, 05:17 PM Well, I know that the bore is 102.36mm or 4.030". Not sure on the piston size but the I believe the CP # is 292. Head gaskets are .0195" thick. Quirt said that this "combustion chamber" mod is required. He also asked for the CC volume of my heads? Anybody know what it is for some JDM V7 "big port" Heads? Thanks guys
Crawford/I-Speed 04-25-2006, 05:28 PM Wes,
The combustion chamber volume is 50cc in your JDM V7 heads. Your R4 combined with your 50cc heads will yeild an 8.78 to 1 compression ratio, asuming your heads are stock.
Quirt

8.78:1....is that acceptable? Yes heads are stock. So what about this combustion chamber problem?? do I really need mod the heads for the block?
Sorry if I sound like an idiot :D
gpatmac 04-26-2006, 12:18 AM I'd call Quirt. I think he'll tell you that it is definitely acceptible, however, higher compression = more reliance on higher octane. More power but more prone to det if you go hogwild with the boost.
I believe a valid description is that you'd be raising your n/a power curve, so if you were able to dyno your old longblock and your new and compare the two, you'd generally see the entire curve elevated. That doesn't take into consideration all of your other modifications (I think mainly with regards of intake/exhaust efficiency.)
....that's my complete and utter bastardization of Mr Corky Bell's years of experience.
Peeblesmx445 04-26-2006, 12:59 AM Well, I find myself flustered with questions now that it has come to the assembly process. So im just gonna lay everything that has been going through my head in the last week out here and hope I can gather enough info to be able to think clearly again.
Here it goes...
1.Are the head gaskets on an EJ205 and an EJ22 the same?
I ask this because the head gaskets I have for this "ej22" block( supplied by CP) are identical to the ones that were on my ej205 and they kinda block off parts of some of the oil and water passage ways on the block.???
2. I need new oil and water pumps. Do I order these for an ej22 block? And is there any difference between these throughout the subaru blocks?
3.Cam oil seals for my JDM V7 heads?? same as USDM??
4.Cam AVCS sensors on my JDM V7 heads, same as USDM?
5. Am I really gonna need to take these heads to a machine shop to be modded to yeild the proper compression?- I want to make good power on 91 octane!
6. What cams for lots of power but still "kinda" streetable?
7.Will my stock wrx cam gears work on these JDM heads if I am NOT using AVCS?
8.Debating on wether to go with a .82 or 1.06 a/r???
9. Any assembly tips? Going to get some hondabond this week, Anything else I might want to pick up?
10. I need some torque specs, anybody got a link to anything on here?
Thank you NASIOC!
There WILL be more to come...
WRXRallyBlue 04-26-2006, 01:24 AM 1. I suppose because the ej22 is a closed deck the gaskets are slightly different. Is that what you're asking?
8. With a 2.8l I would say it should be much easier to spool the 1.06 so less turbo lag than associated with 2.0-5 and safer/easier gains up top. If you're not pushing the car as hard to make power then safer on 91.
Edit: still interested in checking everything out, you have my phone number.
tmarcel 04-26-2006, 09:16 AM 1.Are the head gaskets on an EJ205 and an EJ22 the same?
I ask this because the head gaskets I have for this "ej22" block( supplied by CP) are identical to the ones that were on my ej205 and they kinda block off parts of some of the oil and water passage ways on the block.???
Seems that the gaskets would be hanging into the combustion area. I see a problem with that. Even with the EJ257 gaskets they would be marginally hanging over I would think.
2. I need new oil and water pumps. Do I order these for an ej22 block? And is there any difference between these throughout the subaru blocks?
The oil pumps are the same except the shims on the relieve valve. Just get the EJ22 ones so you don't have to mess with the shims. The water pump is probably the same too but I'm not certain.
5. Am I really gonna need to take these heads to a machine shop to be modded to yeild the proper compression?- I want to make good power on 91 octane!
What is the "proper compression"? It's what ever it is that you want it to be. Some folks might want 8.8:1 while others might want less. That's up to you. 8.8:1 will feel better on the street than 8:1 FWIW. You'll slightly limit your overall boost pressure though so that's somehting to think about.
6. What cams for lots of power but still "kinda" streetable?
If it was me, I would go with hotter cams with the larger displacement that you've got. It has the ability to ingest more so why not ;)
8.Debating on wether to go with a .82 or 1.06 a/r???
1.06
9. Any assembly tips? Going to get some hondabond this week, Anything else I might want to pick up?
Hondabond, the Toyota, GM, Subrau stuff are all about the same. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Make sure you get assembly lube for the cams and followers apply liberally. Also double check your lash on the follower/buckets too. They can be obnoxious sounding if they are out of spec.
10. I need some torque specs, anybody got a link to anything on here?
Do a google search for Ken-Gilbert WRX STI and you'll find a link for the Factory manual.
gpatmac 04-26-2006, 09:21 AM 3.Cam oil seals for my JDM V7 heads?? same as USDM??Check out page 2 of CK02WRX's thread.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=954480
Peeblesmx445 05-04-2006, 04:17 PM Ok, so I went and got a few OEM parts today including the oil and water pumps... Seems the oil pumps are the same from an ej205 to an ej22 as far as style but the water pump for the ej22 only had one stem off the side for the 2 water lines I have so Im taking it back and getting the ej205 one. Also got some mics. gaskets and o-rings, gotta love getting employee pricing :D .

Peeblesmx445 05-11-2006, 01:19 AM So, I have a dillema.... I went to go get the "crankshaft spocket" from subaru today and I ran into the fact that I didnt know which one to get.
Seeing as i have a ej22 block I figured I would get a ej22 one...so I did. It has like 5 pick-up points on it for the cam position sensor where as my ej205 WRX one had like 50 teeth for pick-up points? The mechanic down there said that the ej205 one had so many for emmissions? So did I get the correct one? and are the cam position sensors throughout the EJ series motors the same? Thanks

Wes, You need to use the crank sprocket off of your WRX motor as it has the propper amount of teeth for the ref/sync setup found in your ECU.

You'll probably figure this out when you start to put the timing belt on but you need to remove the auto tensioner and have the piston pressed until the holes line up. Then put a 2mm allen wrench through the holes and put it back on. Aslo Idler A (bottom left) goes on last, after all the timing marks are lined up on the belt. Then pull the 2mm allen wrench out and you're done. PM me if need "borrow" any of the manuals. I figure you already have them and are just getting a little ahead of yourself. Good luck, I can't wait to see some drag videos.

Heads are at DPR.
Been busy playing PAINTBALL!!!
Peeblesmx445 07-11-2006, 03:36 PM So, I think I screwed up..... I went and bought tires today. I got 205/60/16. I had 205/55/16 potenzas on there before and they were ok. I cant remember what brand I got right now but did I screw up on the profile?????? I basically wanted a street tire with a taller sidewall to run less pressure. Im still under the mindset of .." Id rather spin tires than break axles". The guys at Les Schuab (sp!) said these were stickier that the Potenzas.... I dont know....I guess I should have searched NASIOC before buying.
Peeblesmx445 07-15-2006, 02:13 PM ^ anybody? Btw, I got talked into buying "Equus LSI 92V" tires.....anybody have any experience???
Next question I have is about a turbo oil feed line. I had read from Phil at Element that I can uses either an STI one or have a custom one made and use a banjo fitting with 2 outlets to supply oil to the cams and turbo..... Im a little confused on the whole idea, so if someone could help out and steer me in the right direction that would be great!
Update: 7-15-06
installed 5MT Dogbox
installed axles/driveshaft
installed all coilovers
installed wheels and took car off jackstands
finished mounting aluminum seats to stock brackets
more stuff being powder coated
started painting side markers
mick_the_ginge 07-15-2006, 06:45 PM Are you still using the V7 heads? If so they came with oil lines. You just need to get a line to run from them to the turbo.
Make sure you use the filtered banjo bolts to the feed to the AVCS solenoid even if you don't plan to run AVCS. That oil gally feeds the cam bearing.

Yes, I am still using the JDM V7 heads. I actually am talking about the oil line from the head oil lines to the turbo. According to this post by element tuning I will need either an sti one or a custom made one

First, "Potenza" is a whole range of tires from Bridgestone, not a model. STIs come with Potenza RE-070s on 17xWhatever rims. WRXes come with (or came with... don't know about newer models) Potenza RE-92s in 205/55/16 on 16x7 rims.
Second, 205/60/16 tires will increase your wheel diameter by .8 inches.
Third, I assume that this will be a drag car as most "builds" end up being. I suggest talking to people in the Motorsports forum about what you're doing for tires. I haven't read the thread, but if you're building a car with the power to run 10s, you sure as hell are going to spin ANY Potenza like mad.
Good luck with the project! Signing off.
txjunglist 07-22-2006, 12:57 PM This has been a fun thread to read. I am also a privateer in my build too.. I am hoping for 10's as well but I have not gotten as far as you have into the quest..I am hoping to do this on full interior(prolly won't happen) but hell that's the goal. Good luck to you and I am very hopefull for your goal.

I don't know what exactly he did (perhaps things not easily noticeable), but it is actually very easy to yank the seats and then strip the entire interior of trim and carpeting. 2 hours at a slow pace, max.

Ya, Got the "y" peice from thebeveragefactory.com . Actually very easy to do....
AK'S REX 08-08-2006, 11:24 AM Cool setup! For the record, mounting yout fuel regulator to the firewall is against NHRA rules. Not sure about others, but tech inspection at any respectable track will probably not let that fly.
As per most rule books the regulator and all fuel lines must be located outside of vehicle's frame rails. Although if you mount it anywhere forward of the firewall by at least 6 inches you should be OK.
How did you plumb the dual walbro setup? I too am curious.

Also got my Safe Rides Auto Power Roll bar installed along with my seats. The aluminum seats are nearly as uncomfortable as I thought they would be. :p
Clutch and Timing belt also have arrived. I am also wiring in a DTEC 5 BAR MAP sensor into my UTEC to make it run better at 30+ psi boost cortesy of Mick the Ginge's usefull information....
Now I am only waiting on my heads to be finished, injectors, and a BOV before I can get it running...should be soon

NHRA Sport compact= as low as 10.00 with ONLY a roll bar as long as firewall and floorboards are untouched from factory..... :p I did ALOT of reading to find that one.

yes, but that roll bar will still not work. It needs to be 5 point at least. Just add a drop out drivers side bar to/from the autopower bar to the front floor board. Thats what i had to do. Also, there a chance that car may go faster than 10 seconds, so you will need a cage

cdvma 08-24-2006, 12:43 PM Just an observation about the battery mount. I'd place it on the passenger side to offset the weight of the driver and the equipment that you removed from that side. It makes a good difference if you don't have the ability to corner weight the car. I don't think it will matter much but if you haven't solidified the mounting, IMHO, I'd slide it over.
Lookin good tho.
brcewane 08-27-2006, 11:06 AM Subscribing.. sweet looking project you have there.... Just thought it was funny that you took +15 hours to remove sound deadening material and all that weight savings and you kept your stock door skins and your stereo.. LOL

2004stiwrb 08-27-2006, 12:11 PM looks really good, but your cage is a bolt together cage witch is a no go in the nhra rule book, it has to be a completly welded cage. and you at least have to have a door bar on the driverside from your shoulder to the floor in front of your foot to be a roll bar. you could probobly modify your cage to make it work

Yes. I know this already. I ran into a time issue and decided to just buy the bolt in one for now, and later after the car is running and ready to hit the track I will have it welded in with 2 door bars....

Peeblesmx445 09-20-2006, 01:16 PM wow let me say that i am throughly impresed with your build not only because of the scope and the detail but the choices and the craftmanship i went to school for autobody and i am 19 and i know that it would take me twice as long to get just as far as you congrats and i also swear that if we dont see a video within the first 15 min of that engine cranking over i will take your car and give it to rexftw
Thanks, I will have plenty of vids for you guys!
Peeblesmx445 09-20-2006, 01:18 PM I also have one little question.... Based on everything that is going into this build, what do some of you experienced guys think this car will really run in the 1/4 assuming I am a good driver?
BREWPUBEAVER 09-20-2006, 02:01 PM what fuel?
on C16* w/ a 1.6 60ft i will say a 9.99
burnin4 09-20-2006, 05:01 PM I would guess mid to upper 10's at 135mph+. the car will have a ton of potential, but it'll take some practice. I hope to hear about some great results soon!
Peeblesmx445 09-22-2006, 11:41 AM what fuel?
on C16* w/ a 1.6 60ft i will say a 9.99
I will be running 91 oct pump fuel, and C16 or even 118 oct race fuel...
Edit: The new BOV and 1000cc injectors arrived the other day aswell. I will be wiring the injectors in over the weekend, might do a write-up on it or something.....
Peeblesmx445 09-27-2006, 10:02 PM Update: 9-27-06
Heads should be here early next week, then I will be putting together the rest of the block and putting the motor back in the car.
Few Q's...
Can someone please help me out in this thread? http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1094954
What motor oil should I be running during break-in? Pereferably something I can pick up at Kragens...
What Tranny fluid other than Motul will be good for the Dogbox and the rear diff?
Coolant? Anything special? Engine Ice ok?
What sparkplugs should I be using?

Also! What is this thing and what does it do? I know it connects to the manifold near where the throttle cables run but whats its purpose?

Thanks!!!!!!
Judge 09-27-2006, 10:26 PM Coolant will depend on what track you are running at if they will even allow it. Grattan Raceway here in Michigan used to let us motorcycles run engine ice (I saw like 20degrees drop using this stuff...expensive but worth it) but they then banned it too so it is water wetter and water.....big isse here but not for you.
White 2.5rs 09-27-2006, 11:31 PM lol weird
i have both of those parts sitting around (theyre probably the only wrx parts i have)
if you look up the part number on that solenoid, i think its the fuel vapor solenoid
that other thing, i think its a regulator...but im not sure
WRXRallyBlue 09-28-2006, 12:41 AM That is the fuel vapor return solenoid. You can run the car without it but you'll get a cel.

You gotta come see this thing!
InfamousDX 09-28-2006, 01:34 AM Dogbox = Mobil 1
Nothing else... there's a thread that I started in Transmission/Driveline about what fluid and someone directed me to another thread where it was discussed. I believe mikaust used mobil 1, as instructed by Andrewtech, then switched to Redline Shockproof something (they also said this was ok) but it ran terribly in his opinion so yea... he swears by Mobil 1.

Im am still needing to know what plugs I should be using in the motor. I was guessing finding out what came stock in the JDM V7 heads and going 1 step colder....
Also what motor oil for breakin and thereafter?
And can I use that mobile 1 in my rear diff?
Thanks.....
WRXRallyBlue 10-01-2006, 04:21 AM I would talk to pdx about those specific questions if you need some more assurance - but my take goes:
2 step colder plugs
mobil 1 motor before/after
mobil 1 diff
ka mano 10-01-2006, 06:15 AM Dino oil's good for the break-in 'til the rings seal.
