View Full Version : Will 245x40 17 rub on my car? p_ilis 03-10-2006, 05:45 PM Car: STi -04 with H&R lowering springs (GDB) Wheels: ET:45 Width 8.5'' Please someone, say that you tried this. :alien: /Peter Golfa 03-11-2006, 12:20 PM it might be close with those springs. stock height you would be fine most likely p_ilis 03-11-2006, 12:41 PM it might be close with those springs. stock height you would be fine most likelyI won't run stock height.. But if other springs rub wouldn't stock springs rub too when compressed enough? Where do you think they will rub? I have rolled out my back fenders. What I'm most worried about is the back struts.. /Peter bigworm 03-11-2006, 01:44 PM i ran that size tire with a 8" wide wheel 48et on my 05 wrx on cusco zer2rs and only rubbed during hard cornering before my fenders were rolled. so you can get away with it easy if you roll your rear fenders. subieworx 03-12-2006, 10:26 AM With that combo you will rub on the fender before the strut. 245's are not wide enough (depending on the tire) to rub on the strut with that wheel. p_ilis 03-12-2006, 10:43 AM With that combo you will rub on the fender before the strut. 245's are not wide enough (depending on the tire) to rub on the strut with that wheel. Thanks, thatīs exactly the answer I wanted! I'm thinking of using Michelin pilot sport 2. Are they known to be wider or thinner then specs? /Peter subieworx 03-12-2006, 10:47 AM They are known to be as wide as their specs. It's not that a tire is not within it' specs, it's more about finding out the specs for that tire as tire size will varry between brands. p_ilis 03-12-2006, 11:08 AM They are known to be as wide as their specs. Ok, my bad english.. :-) The question should have if they are wider or thinner than the normal 245-tire. So you think the Michelins would work for me then? /Peter ripvw 03-12-2006, 04:03 PM ...The question should have if they are wider or thinner than the normal 245-tirea quick check of TireRack's website shows the section width of 245/45x17 tires ranging between 9.6" and 10" with the Michelin PS2's average @ 9.8". I think you might have to roll the rear fenders with an ET45 wheel: http://www.rollyourfender.com/ p_ilis 03-12-2006, 05:01 PM Thanks for the info, didn't know TireRack had that kind of statistics. I have actually allready rolled the rear fenders. So that should be ok I guess? A little bit worried about the front as well. Sometimes even the stock wheels with 225:s rub (when damper is near maximum compressed). /Peter rex n effect 03-13-2006, 01:13 PM I had 245/40 17 kumho mxs on 8" 45 offset wheels. Rubbed the rear fender only under hard cornering. Rolled rear fenders. No problemo. Some people get away with no fender rolling, but you'll probably have to roll the rears due to the extra wheel width. p_ilis 04-26-2006, 04:38 PM Got them on today. 245x40 17 Goodyear Eagle F1. Very close to the back struts (<5mm standing on the ground). There were even small marks from my last tires on the struts. Don't think it will be a problem as it runs nice and I don't hear/feel/notice any rubbing. Yes, and it look great. :) /Peter rex n effect 04-26-2006, 06:32 PM sweet. Pics!!! some people are running wider tires without being that close to the strut... maybe some camber bolts to dial out a little bit of rear camber would give even more room. p_ilis 05-01-2006, 05:37 PM sweet.
