ive only herd it with the entire turboback, but it is deep, but does not drone when crusing at highway speeds, but gets pretty loud when goin WOT.

it is 2.5in piping. as for a quality diff between the one you have and the one i have, im not sure about yours because i have no experience with it but the exhaust i have is very good quality.

How involved is installing the air intake? If its easy enough I may be interested. Let me know.

I have an MRT Rally short intake.I can swap it for the stock airbox in about 15 minutes.I do it when I take it in for service because I don't know if they'll have a problem with it.Shorties are easy to install and they sound really cool from inside the car.I don't know about an increase in hp but it has better response and seems to build boost faster than stock.I like mine and think you should go for it.

intake is very easy to install. you will gain some spool with it and be able to hear the turbo better

Where in CT are you?

Edit: Oops, should have read the post more carefully. Happens when you are at the office early and still half-asleep.
