View Full Version : What tire temp. range should I expect on track days?

Now to get much more specific: I was thinking of picking up an infrared thermometer to check temps across the tire to help adjust tire pressure and was wondering what type of temp range thermometer to get. (I was thinking of checking rotors before and after a kool brake kit too, but the infrared units only go up to 1000F and I am afraid I may eclipse that number on the track.)

I know there are a lot of variables involved in this question, but it would be at Autobahn Country Club near Chicago in early June so if the weather co-operates it should be around 70 degrees or so. The track sessions are for 20min. and the track is just under 4 miles long. I will be running Advan A048's. Any temp. guesstimates?

Is it not that common to check tire temps or am I somehow posting in the wrong forum? I would imagine someone has a general idea of tire and rotor temps for a 20 min. track session. A little help here...

If your tires can go to 1000F without bursting into flames... Um, well.

Sorry, that probably wasn't real helpfull. You might ask in the Motorsports forum. They're all about this kind of stuff in there.

Yeah, the 1000F part was for the rotors. I was thinking the tires would maybe hit 100F-200F but was not sure. I'll post up in the motorsports section to see if they can help out. Thanks
