Mopac Peformance Street Legal Race #1

Anyone heading to the track on the 24th (season opener)? I'll be down there with a few friends.

Some of you met Jarryd ('05 PWP RSX-S with the CF Hood) at a meet a while ago. He's now got I/RH/E, Buddy Club P2's with brand new Falken Azenis.

Another friend with a DA9 who's just finishing his turbo set-up and an EP3 hatch (w/ intake and race header).

I've only been to the track once last season when I was Cobb Stage 1. Only got a few runs in and my best time was a 14.4 at 97mph IIRC. Didn't get a good launch in all night (60' = 2.0-2.2). This year I'll be running with a gutted OEM uppipe, PDE catless downpipe, cobb stage 2 (93 oct.), removed intake silencer and Falken ZE-512's. I'm hoping to hit mid-high 13's.

When I get to the track I'm also taking off the axle-back portion of the exhaust to free up some weight and increase flow.

Any other weight reduction you guys can think that I could do? I was thinking of taking out the rear seats, removing spare tire + jack, emptying out storage compartments, removing all floor mats.

I'd come, but I'd be the only car running in the 17's

Jarryd's car is fast, damn fast. I see him all the time, but he never waves back.

I'm curious what the blue beast is capable of.

Cool, find me when you're out there. I'll be in a stock looking '05 aspen white rex.

Any mods on the STi?

I'll keep my eyes open for scooby brethren.
Also, I usually get there early too. If I can continue that trend this year, I'll save some spots at about the 1/8th mile point. Try to snag the spot before the Honda and Mustang kids do.

As for mods, not too many right now, just UTEC and exhaust.
I'm still learning how to drive this beast.

good luck with your goals.
13's are absolutely wicked for a street car.

bah, you have lots of time.
The 24th is a Friday, which leaves a whole Saturday to pack and beg for forgiveness.

If all else fails, you may be able to score tickets for the Celine Dion show. Even if the wife isn't a Celine fan, she'll recognize the sacrifice you're making by listening to that sea hag.

I, too, would love to know what your STi runs at sea level. 12.91 is my best at 2,720 ft above sea level. If Mission weren't 700km away, I'd be there. Keep us posted please.

Hmmm, you think I can make it back to make the last ferry to Vic on Friday night? How far from Mission to North Van? I can't see me making tswassen..lol sp?

Ewww, Celine.

Hypa, what did your wagon run?

I'm curious about cost, the time, and needed gear. I wanted to take the E55 out and see how it does...

Wow, that's a smoking time.
I'm hoping for a mid-13 out of the box. I'm setting my goals low so it doesn't hurt if I screw up my launch, etc.

hmmm, that's going to be tight.
When does the last ferry leave either Tswassen or N. Van?
Mission is about 1.5hrs from N. Van, and the same to Tsawassen, so it will definately be tight.

I ran a 14.3 in the wagon, with only an axle-back.
I never ran after that, but from feel I'd say she would be close to a 13.9 or so*

*to those who question my butt dyno, I dare you to call me out on it. It's highly calibrated you know.

So, you drive an $80k car, but you're worried about the $20 to run at the track?

I've never done 1/4 mile track days. Just curious about what they usually cost. And, do you normally buy stuff without finding out how much it costs?

If I'm not working I will check this out. Definatly want to give it a try and meet more people. I have never gone before so I will be hunting out all the suby people for any advice I can get. Must get a plug in my summer tires before the 24th or else I'll be on the RE92's.

Given the mods you had you should have run under 13.9 with the wagon. And you'll be capable of low 13's for sure in the STI. Maybe better.

that's what i'm hoping buster.
Like I said before, I'm keeping my goals low in case I fugg up. I don't want to crush my dreams that bad my first time out.

As for the wagon, I was only beat once during a sanctioned race, and that was by a 12.7 second DSM. Up until the 1/8th mile he kept me back a half car. Talking to him after the race, he was pleased with the launch and the run, so I'm guessing she had mid to low 13's with a serious launch.

I'd like nothing more to call my pop's after the event and tell him my beast is in the 12's. That's why I got excited when berzerk posted his time. Before that, the fastest STi at MRP was pulling low 14's.

I was just curious more than anything. Most AMG guys I know are self made businessmen, and always have some cash in there pocket for small stuff like this. Regardless, it's $25 to enter, but be there early. They allow 200 cars per night, and it fills up usually before 7pm.

Wow, I guess when you have that many cars, one missed shift/poor launch/whathaveyou, will net a poor time, with not much chance to rectify the problem. Up in P.G., we may see ~40-50 cars on a "busy" night. We are lucky enough to have street-legal drags every Friday from 6-9pm pretty much from mid-June to mid-September. I usually go in rounds of 3 at a time, with a 30 minute cool down between sets and I still see well over 10 runs a night....road trip anyone?

Hypa, not sure of your dyno chart, but I found with my set-up (AP ST2 and TBE) that ~6,500 rpm seems to work the best for shifts once into second gear....first is 7K as it goes by so quick I usually forget to shift earlier!

wow, that is awesome berzerk.
I'll definately keep the shift points in mind when I head out. I'm hoping to get 3-4 runs.

As for a road trip to PG, I'd be afraid that I wouldn't come back. Give me 100 acres where I can shoot my guns, drive sideways in my backyard, and ride my ATV until it's dark, and I'm a happy man.

I'm planning on coming out! Should be a blast. I don't want to tell anyone what I am running for gear because I fear that I will run like arse because of a lack of launching skill :) I ran a 13.5s run last year with a 2.2s 60ft time...haha. That was on a very bad suspension(lowered way too much and no name springs), got a new koni adjustable/ prodrive combo that should help a lot(I hope).

Well for kicks, here it is.

2002 SEDONA RED WRX

Performance:

K&N Filter :)
Lightened pullies(crank and alt)
Ground Wire kit(Performance? maybe, looks cool though)
Custom intercooler sprayer

Okay now for things that make a difference:
Helix Flex up-pipe
TURBO XS Stealth back with Apexi N1 Axleback
Helix Intercooler
VF34
STI PINKS
Centerforce DF clutch(blah) I will be getting an act or rps next time.

*Rocket Rally custom tune ECUTEK* Cannot say enough good things about RR and Pat Richard. He will do his absolute best to make you happy. Im hoping to head back soon for some dyno work.

Suspension:

Whiteline rear sway with solid endlinks
Prodrive springs
Koni adjustable struts

Wheels and tires:
Black Teflon coated Motegi LC5 17's(14.5lbs) :)
Falcon Z512

Things that make it pretty:
Jun replica eye lids
Sti hood scoop(painted flat black)
Sti Carbon fiber sidemarkers
ZeroSports Front grill
Zerosports Rear bumper

Well there she is...I have an intermittent boost leak that I am going to try and take care of before the race day so it doesnt sound like I have a small bird trapped in my engine. :)

My goal for this summer is to break 13 seconds. Here's to hoping!

PS: Anyone know where I can get a cheap(used) windsheild? Fking dumptruck without a tarp over his load. I called alder wrecking and they got nothing.

Anyway, take it easy and I will see you all there!

Malcolm, you gotta make it out to one of the local meets we have out in the valley. Jason and Steve keep telling me about your car and I've never seen it driving around. I think it would almost be a miracle having two SRP cars at a meet, especially well modified ones :)

As for track day, I'll see what I can do to try and speed up the tuning of this new turbo and get to the dyno before then to finish the tune. If I don't make this one, I will be coming out soon.

So shoudl we make it a cruise down?

I'll be seeing what this supercharged Miata can pull :)

BTW, I'll be going early..like arriving at 4-5pm~ish...I hate traffic and I like to get early to get a few early passes before everybdy comes out.

I iwhs Mission would get rid of some of the domestics...tehy take up 70% of the time and 90% of the space..lol...

PS. Anybody want to come and videotape some runs? I know I'd love to have some runs videotaped....maybe we all can chip in for dinner for the person who tapes it and hosts it on the net' ;)

No shame in it man. I've had a 24 second pass, and a high 16's pass as well. There were about 5-7 cars who ran slower...theres no shame..nobody laughs. Geez, ANY import is laughed at anyways at Mission.

Theres nothing like the adrenaline of lining up against someone and just redlining the car..muhaha.

I did a baseline run with my Miata last year before boost and got high 16s/low17s...no shame..its stock. But at least now I have a baseline time now that I'm boosted..so tehre are alot of benefits.

A cruise down there would be pretty cool. My friends and I are also gonna go there early, leaving Coquitlam around 3:30-4:00.

One of my friends is coming along specifically to watch and video tape our runs, I'll see if he has enough batteries/tapes to record the runs of the members of this forum as well.

What did your Miata dyno at? What kinda times are you expecting to hit?

Not my #'s, but the manufacturer..

110rwhp stock
180rwhp s/c

Realistically, I think the car might be running 160rwhp~. Miata isnt a straight lien car...so, I'll be extremely happy with mid-high 14's...
