View Full Version : Solstice GXP to have direct injection scott_gunn 03-16-2006, 11:11 AM Let the lusting and bashing begin... http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=109644 Rail 03-16-2006, 11:29 AM They're keeping the truck transmission in the GXP? AudiTTkiller 03-16-2006, 11:42 AM guy at work might get it, cant wait to race him- keeps calling my car a "suzuki" STiTkacik 03-16-2006, 12:00 PM I saw a Solstice the other day on the road. looked like a very cool car! zer0_thirteen 03-16-2006, 12:23 PM yeah, I mean, I'd much rather own a miata (or MX-5, whatever they are calling it these days), but in person, the Solstice isn't too bad looking. johnei 03-16-2006, 12:29 PM I'd definitely consider this car if I knew how soon it was going to be available and how much they want for it (and how much over sticker it will be). BigElm 03-16-2006, 12:42 PM Nice.... chances are they'll dump this on the Sky.... I love the looks of that car, but chances are I won't fit in it :( AWDPilot 03-16-2006, 12:47 PM yay for being a short **** :D Achilles38WRX 03-16-2006, 01:18 PM wasn't this known already when the GXP was introduced at the Los Angeles show back in january? BigElm 03-16-2006, 01:20 PM Not the Direct Injection.... at least I don't remember reading about it. johnei 03-16-2006, 01:32 PM Yes it had DI then too, didn't want to wtlw. The same motor is in the Opel GT (which is the Opel version of the Saturn Sky) so probably if they are clever but who knows. coolbluelb 03-16-2006, 07:12 PM http://www.pontiac.com/promo/solsticegxp/index.jsp In case anyone did not see it... Anyway, I think the Sky Redline will look better and have the same performance numbers. coolbluelb 03-16-2006, 07:16 PM http://us.tnpv.net/2005/WKA200512/WKA2005123182860_pv.jpghttp://us.tnpv.net/2005/WKA200512/WKA2005123182907_pv.jpg Hazdaz 03-16-2006, 07:36 PM THis is WTLW, but repeating it isn't a bad thing. As long as it is of a high-quality engine, this is a very good thing. Oh yea... I don't recall if GM ever said what kind of tranny this new engine is getting? I HOPE it's a 6-speed.... but for cost-cutting reasons, I am expecting a 5-speed. NYCshopper 03-16-2006, 08:07 PM THis is WTLW, but repeating it isn't a bad thing. Solstice GXP will be available with both a five-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission. ricky03 03-16-2006, 08:15 PM guy at work might get it, cant wait to race him- keeps calling my car a "suzuki" Are you stock? If so, you better hope he cant drive or you race him the wet or snow. NYCshopper 03-16-2006, 08:21 PM Are you stock? If so, you better hope he cant drive or you race him the wet or snow. Exactly....this car is packing some serious technology...now put it into the better looking car...(Saturn Sky  ) (plus this car should be around the $25k price point) GM claims the GXP is capable of sub-5.5-second 0-to-60-mph sprints with either transmission. It uses direct injection, dual-cam phasing and a twin-scroll turbocharger to make up to 130 hp per liter. Hazdaz 03-16-2006, 08:29 PM An STi should beat it, but a regular WRX sure as hell won't... atleast not by much. Even if it is portly for a roadster, it still weighs less than a WRX, and with quite a bit more power. JM530 03-16-2006, 11:31 PM If the Sky definitely gets the same engine option as the GXP... I'll be buying a Sky. Both look pretty cool, but the Sky is better. coolbluelb 03-16-2006, 11:47 PM Opel GT, Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Redline should all be basically the same vehicle. Trim levels will be the only differences. http://www.europe.opel.com/brand_sites/opelgt/gallery/opelgt_800x600_4.jpg http://www.wallpaper.net.au/wallpaper/automotive/Saturn%20Sky%20Roadster%201%20-%20800x600.jpg http://www.carx1.com/wallpapers/01/2006PontiacSolstice_800.jpg mh_WRX 03-17-2006, 01:56 AM An STi should beat it, but a regular WRX sure as hell won't... atleast not by much. It could be quite a weekend Club Racer. Achilles38WRX 03-17-2006, 11:19 AM Opel GT, Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Redline should all be basically the same vehicle. There were rumors a few months ago that suppliers had leaked information about a coupe Solstice that would be specifically marketed to the weekend racing set and set up for a specific scca class. There were renderings of it a few months ago. mh_WRX 03-17-2006, 07:25 PM Those weren't renderings, but what GM showed at SEMA this year. teh POD 03-17-2006, 09:00 PM when i gassed up earlier today, a solstice pulled up to the pump behind me. it didn't look bad at all, although it looked weird with the top up. i still rather have a saturn sky. Hazdaz 03-17-2006, 09:45 PM I saw my first Solstice on the road the other day also. It had it's top up. Looks lots better in person than in photos... but it's still no Sky. coolbluelb 03-18-2006, 01:02 AM There were rumors a few months ago that suppliers had leaked information about a coupe Solstice that would be specifically marketed to the weekend racing set and set up for a specific scca class. is this what you are referring to? http://news.caradisiac.com/IMG/jpg/Pontiac-Solstice-Club-Racer-1.jpg coolbluelb 03-18-2006, 01:03 AM que the captain obvious pic! Repetition is the 2nd most sincere form of flattery... |
