"We caught Ford's revamped Escape on public roads without its front- end camouflage, revealing the new mini-ute's completely new face for the first time. Early sightings of the Escape in various states of undress left us puzzled, as its bodysides seemed to go more car-like (without its usual chunky side cladding), while its front-end seemed to be more truckish (with its thicker egg-crate grille). Seeing the whole package nearly uncovered, the styling of the new Escape looks much more harmonious than we originally thought. The Ford Edge heavily influences the look of the new Escape, but Ford has shied away from the Fusion-inspired three-bar grille. Instead, the Escape's grille looks a bit more like the Land Rover Freelander's. The bumper juts out aggressively, but the affect is softened by an Explorer-style air intake residing below the grille. In case anyone doubts this SUV's identity, "Escape" is sculpted into the front bumper, towards the left. Although no official confirmation has been given, many expect the new Escape to see its public introduction at the New York Auto Show in mid-April."

Good olde Ford to bring out another boring-mobile. They seem to be doing soooo well with all their other bland cars, might as well continue the course, eh Ford?

Hoo! they really took the ugly stick to that one.....leave the big truck fascia to the big trucks.

what's the point of the edge if escape is going to look just like it?

Its becoming more apparent to me that US automakers do not always need a point.

The Edge (which actually did look good - atleast it's concept version did) is bigger (but car based). The Edge is about the size of an Explorer... the Escape used to be small... but in that pic, it looks pretty damn big to me.

Oh, and Ford... enough with the dumb E-names for your god damn trucks, and F-names for your cars. It's f'en retarded.

"Here at Ford, we no longer carry the Bronco. We're trying to get away from that whole 'fugitive on the run' image. This one is called the 'Escape.'"

If I had the money, I would buy OJ one of these promptly

Beyond the front fascia it doesn't look like they changed much in the overall shape of the body. The lines on the pillars look exactly like the ones on the Escapes I used to drive around the lot at the Ford dealership back in 2001.

Anybody else think it looks like a Dodge?

WAY too boring to look like a Dodge.

If you want one that looks good, you'll have to pay extra for the Mazda Tribute version. It also comes with a better warranty and IIRC, a different tune to the suspension...

Very Nitro-ish to me.

I thought Edge was a trim level. My girlfriend's dad has a Ford F-150 Edge.

I think they also sell a Ranger in an "Edge Edition" or something like that.

All of the "rugged" looks of an X-terra, with the off-road capabilities of a Ford Tauras.
Ford, you've done it again!!

whats with cars and trucks lately that dont have a continuous front bumper and instead have black plastic and weird gaps. The EVO X, the vw's with their chin strap grill and this truck all dont have a bumper directly under their upper grill but an unpainted piece of plastic.

What's with cars back in the 60's that had tons of chrome, what's with cars back in the 70's that were all angular and what's with cars back in the 80's that were all jelly-bean shaped??

It's a fad... styling cues come and go, and obviously now a lot of cars have that 'big-nose' look. Some pull it off, some don't.

Arrested Development?! Best show that was on TV

Also, that thing is way to big. Why are Toyota and Ford making their "cute-utes" big. Small is what a lot of girls like them, and to be honest, you don't see a ton of guys driving Rav4's and Escapes.

They've designated it for their new SUV.

Well...it's just a smaller Explorer. I think I like the current Escape better.

Mazda will no longer carry the Tribute, they have moved on to the CX7.

You are correct. The Tribute will be introduced with a Hybrid as the model exits to receive the CX-7.

There's a brighter light at the end of the tunnel for GM than there is for Ford.

I honestly feel that Ford's designers have NO SKILLS whatsoever.
