Piston swapped shortblock or factory STI shortblock. Stock turbo you would be fine with a factory subaru shortblock.

I would go with an STi block with forged pistons and a set of Crower cams. Loads of fun and under your budget cap.

This block also has the proper piston dish volume to give you an 8.1 to 1 compression ratio using your WRX heads. :)

sell your wrx motor and buy a JDM sti EJ207 longblock. You'll probably get a free turbo if you want it!

plus when you decide to make power you dont have to worry about cracking a piston.
just finished break in on my crawford s2 block and zero oil consumption. not a bad long term investment. do it right one time.

Was that block reconditioned meaning the cylinder walls were honed to fit the new pistons? Are the clearances all spot-on?

If he wants to run a vf39 - just get the Subaru ej257 - it's more than suitable for your needs. The motor will be quiet, won't eat oil.

My Axis 2.5 is fully broken in - it NEVER ate any oil, either.

Why would anyone want to build the motor and leave the stock turbo in? I'm REAL close to moving this out of this forum as this is very near the most ludicrous post I've ever read.

it is odd ,but people build motors all the time and never have a turbo.this is a thread for this because he is building a motor just using the stock turbo though. ;)

Yeah but whats the point?

I didn't hear any arguments for higher compression = better off boost power or quicker spool.

Does he need a point? He reasons for wanting a built block do not have to be good reason. People buy large turbos all the time yet most don't use it's full abilities. Why would it be any different for a motor?

Go with an Axis 2.2 or 2.5 setup.Durable and reliable is the key factor.Later on down the road add a nice turbo setup. Axis Power 314-443-7414

LOL.

If you were asking how to install a STI engine stock, that would be one thing. This does raise a question. Why are you building an engine to handle more boost when you're not adding more boost

My vote goes towards the factory assembled ej257 shortblock - it's "built" especially for his setup.

Alas... Subaru appears to have discontinued the 2.2L block. Doesn't appear to be a single one left in inventory in the US. But I keep checking...

Because buying a stock STI long block is all he'll ever need.

$3k? Just get a STI longblock w/ ecu. The avcs will help you with power on your little turbo.
