View Full Version : Impressions From The Green to the GT35
scooby-stu 03-18-2006, 10:54 PM Hey whats up Guys.
I've had my green for a Year know and i haven't had it tuned to it full potential yet. But he more and more i'm thinking maybe i should sell the Green,Samco inlet, Invidia downpipe and intake and just go with the Perrin GT35r. I thinkin i should get around $1400 for my turbo set-up and for another $1500 i can join the 35 crew.
So i guess my real question is who went from Green to the GT25r and what was your impressions on the difference.
Thanks Stu
02WRX2.5 03-19-2006, 12:29 PM I went from green to 30r. It's way worth it. Spool is faster and more overall powah. do it.

I just did this with my 20G setup. Sold everything and bought the Perrin GT35R kit along with some forged pistons ;) Tune is coming the fist weekend in May

Lookin foward to seeing it :)
ShaggyGT 03-19-2006, 11:25 PM The FP Green is a 49lb turbo and the 35R is a 65lb turbo. If you want quick spool then I suggest you highly reconsider your turbo choice as the 35R is laggy for most people. The 30R is a pretty decent step up from the Green and spools comparbly the same. A search will give you all the information you could ever want about the GT35R. If you search in Power Proven Bragging Rights then you find posts by PDXTuning with comparisons of all kinds of turbos including the Green, Red, 30R, and 35R.

I went from a green to a GT35r...
If you want a easy upgrade and no worries along with a setup that works great with the factory motor the greens a great way to go.
I love my 35r...and it pulls like a motor once spooled.
To install a GT35r isn't to bad...but to really "tap" one requires alot of time/upgrades.
A 30r is a nice inbetween.
scooby-stu 03-20-2006, 01:30 AM Well i'll see what happens after i get the green tuned to its fullest, maybe get some Form of engine managment to swap maps. To get in the 11's thats my real goal. I'm just gettin kinda ancy cause so many are going garret :)

Maybe i should've pointed outi have a custom built block 2.5 over bore forged pistons and Ver 8 heads, JDM tranny, so really have evrything to support itthe GT 35R
my_sti_1 03-20-2006, 01:57 AM i would say the green set up is the cleaner of the two. no FMIC w/chopped bumper staying with a TMIC since the green is almost maxed out. tmic also giving better response than fmic. not to mention the green is a straight high whp BOLT ON!
the green will get you in the 11's no problem. getting a gt35 kit will DEFINITELY test your driving skills whenever you step on the gas. you'll also have to be PATIENT when you are trying to get power from that gt35r starting a 3000rpm.
you're scwred if a cop looks under the hood and sees that gt35r.
but of course i threw all that crap out the window when i decided to have a STi BEAST
scooby-stu 03-20-2006, 11:19 AM LOL
STimo 03-28-2006, 06:51 PM I would get the green tuned with some water/alcky injection. You'll hit 11's for sure. If you don't want to deal with that though i would go with the 30r. It has a 52lb/min compressor wheel so spool is not nearly as bad as the 35r. You should also check out Deadbolt, they have a SZ55 with a 55lb/min. compressor wheel; kinda inbetween the 30r and 35r but it is bolt-on.. you don't have to deal with a rotated mount.
scooby-stu 03-28-2006, 07:32 PM Well ihave the auamist 2D W/I so well see what i can get outa the green then if not that satisfied maybe i'll go RED

What do u think about Fp Red? Thanks
Sorry for hijacking ... :)

that isn't always true.
with a properly sized turbo* for a front mount people have noticed faster spool.
cronic being one of them with his old Ver7 RA motor w/ a Green and APS DR500.
*(green, GT30R, GT35R ect. all fall into that category)
scooby-stu 03-29-2006, 10:42 AM I also think TMIC is maybe more suited to the 2.0 rather than the 2.5 as the displacement relieves lag
WRX8XB 03-29-2006, 12:28 PM I also think TMIC is maybe more suited to the 2.0 rather than the 2.5 as the displacement relieves lag
only with the smaller turbos. (VF series)
Dmon 13 03-29-2006, 01:14 PM i would hope a green would push you into 11s seeing as a 2.0 with an 18g, FMIC and Meth hit 11.9 recently.

well i had a fpgreen with a SPEARCO TMIC and with a PERRIN FMIC and the lag was not noticeable and a gt30r or gt35r would not benefit from using a TMIC in my oppinion so the lag from a tmic to a fmic using a gt30r or gt35r would not be noticeable either.
my .02 cents :)
but yeah having longer intercooler piping does cause a increase in lag and throttle response for some turbos ie.VF turbos or 20g turbos but not much for a gt30r or gt35r but i wouldn't use a TMIC for either of these turbos anyways since the tmic would be limiting the whp tuning from heatsoaking.
