Well I went and had mt auto tranny fluid drained and filled at a local valvoline place. Well They drained it and when they pour in the new fluid it would only take 3.5 quarts. I thought that our automatics hold like 9. something quarts. Well when I got the receipt it had on there 4.5 quarts. They showed me the dipstick and it show as being full so I left and when I got back to work I checked it again and it still showed being full. Why is this that they only put in 3.5 quarts and it was full again? So the $25 I spent was worthless considering that more than half the fluid in there is still the old fluid? Should I go back and say something to them?

w/o doign a full system flush you will never get the other 4 or 4.5 qts out of the torque converter. All they did was drain the trans pan and change the filter.

Actually they didn't even change the filter, should they?

Call you local dealers and ask if they have a automatic trans flush machine. What the machine does is it installs in-line of the trans cooler lines and it will push the old fluid out as the new goes in. It changes aprox 95 to 98% of the old fluid.

A large amount of the ATF will remain in the torque converter. When I changed my oil, only about 3.2 ish Litres came out. You will have to bring it to be professionally flushed if you want all the old oil out. Supposably, the filter doesn't have to be changed. but dont quote me on that. :)

If you pull the pan and filter off, another 5-6 quarts will leak out. Doing this gets really messy since the pan is glued on.
