tried searching but couldnt find what i was looking for.

I have an 06 wrx and was wondering about what the max hp the stock internals can take. I going to a 20g soon and i really dont want to fry a piston.

pretty sure no one has a definate limit as to the numbers but anything over 350 whp and I'd start looking to beef up the internals a bit.

It will take the same punishment as the 2.5 STI motor and maybe a little more, as the 2.5L WRX is less det prone than the 2.5L STI :)

Do you think a GT30r kit can be run on the motor without pistons for any extended period of time?

The only cast parts are the pistons. The rods and crank are forged.

If you avoid any and all detonation, you can get some life out it with a good tune.

sorry for asking but your last statement wasnt fully clear to me, both the sti and wrx have forged rods and crank or just the sti?

just from a brief search stock stis are running 400+ whp so i should be able to hit the same on stocks right?

Not to worry :)

They both have forged rods and cranks. As for 400whp, it is all in the tune as long as the "up grade" components hold hands.

i thought the wrx 2.5 and sti 2.5 differed in some way. i know they have differnt reference nuumber for subie parts. i keep hearing one way then the other then the other. Just trying to clarify.

Sorry for the confusion, they are different in a few ways. The pistons and the heads both have a different shape / volume. Other than that, the long blocks are the same :)
