Okay, I've got a good donor WRX shortblock that is sitting in my garage just waiting for a decent set of pistons, possibly rods and a set of head studs. Is it worth it?
It's not like I need the motor as I am currently using an Sti shortblock. But I'd like to think that I'd have a decent spare for a rainy day. I've already got a spare tranny.
Give me your opinions.

i don't really know either cause i have one in my garage too. im thinking of getting an sti 2.5 block castings, put the wrx crank in with some custom rods and rev the living hell out of it, but who knows what will happen at this point....

I have a set of 99Rs cylinder heads that I could use. Maybe port them with some cams, say 264's.
If I get new pistons I have to bore the block. I think the standard bore is 92.5mm, so lets say I go to 93mm. I could go crazy and sleeve it and get 100mm pistons, but this is a budget minded project.
The motor could very well end up in an Impreza L wagon for all I know.

im on a bugdet too, so i think i might get the deck closed by these guys http://www.outbackmotors.com/engine_blocks.htm then put good rods pistons and a set of 272's and build some power for under 3 grand......

stuff it in a 914 for autocross. that's what my buddy steve is doing.

Hmm, I to have a EJ20 sitting around (Stage 4 papwerweight) :)
I've wondered about building it to a 2.5 or maybe even a 2.7 (push a Gt35r a bit sooner) ya know drop an STI crank and bore it out some, forged parts yada yada so that when I nuke the EJ25 short block I have a back up
STi's are 99.5 mm x 79.0 mm vs. the 92x75 WRX, I think is do able, right?

sleeve the 2ltr with a overbore and sell it off or get a set of heads and sell it to a 2.5rs guy
