hey guys,
i finally am part of the club. my midnight black wrx has a spoiler, armrest, air filtration system, titanium shift knob, auto dimming mirror and security, and also upgrade speakers. the msrp was $25,893.00 i got it for $27,000 and they threw in a rear differential protector which is waiting to be installed. so did i get ripped off? also i haven't heard how the non upgraded speakers sound, but mine are ok, i only got them because it came with the car. i heard it is a piece of **** and i bet it is, where is the damn amp and little woofer? also when driving my car, how long should i let the turbo cool because i let it cool for like 30 secs after about 10 minutes of driving and i hear little pings and i get this little smell, is this normal? i am hoping to enjoy this car even more in a few months after break in, i have like 950 miles to go!

Buy a new car and you will always smell weird things cooking off as you break the car in. The burning smell can be clutch, break pads, but most likely it's cosmoline that is used to undercoat the car. Sometimes it gets oversprayed onto exhaust components and makes a God awful burning rubber smell. Just take it easy on your last couple of miles to your destination and let the car cool down for like a minute, I recommend calling someone on your cell phone while you're waiting. By the time you're done talking, the car will be ready to shut down. I don't see the point in turbo timers for myself, I hated leaving the cozy confines of my car, I didn't really care if I just sat inside while it idled. I love being in the car, I hate being out of it. Of course, I've been denied my car for so long that just sitting in it without the engine running is like heaven. But my point is you dont need a turbo timer, just sit and appreciate your new baby.
Most people agree that the auto dimming mirror isn't worth the extra money. But it's part of the "Popular Equipment Group" none the less. Go figure. Everyone I know that has it likes it about as much as they like to curb their dogs. The upgraded speakers are indeed still crap, I said no thanks. The sub is under the passenger seat, turn the gain down and it'll sound ok, the come set way too high. Again, I said no thanks. I'm going to get a way better setup in the future anyway.

As for being "ripped off", if you like your car and you're happy with how much you paid. Why give a f*ck what we think about your car? You'll get a bunch of people who say you should have got "this much" or that you're ripped off, but ultimately you shouldn't let anyone second guess your choice because they DONT own your car.

A bit more about that subwoofer. Move the passenger seat all the way forward to get at those dials on it. One is X-over and the other is gain. Adjust both to taste. They come from the factory all screwed up. Adjust the X-over until there is a smooth transition from mains to sub. Its a little tricky to get right. I'm now very happy with the premium sound since I got it set up right. The quality is good, it just can't go that loud. Being a bit of an audiophile, I try not to listen to anything too loudly so the volume level is fine for me. I enjoy music too much to ruin my hearing with 100+db of the Booty Bass Patrol jamin all the time.:p
