View Full Version : Shaking when going over 75mph?

Hi Everyone:

My WRX is one week old, and has 300 miles on it. I noticed that when I drive over 75mph, the car gets rather shaky. The faster I go at that point, the more shaky it gets. Do any of you know what this could be related to? Is this wheel allignment or balancing? Is it related to the air scoop? I'll take it in shortly, but would appreciate any heads up.

Thanks

Can't imagine that it would be the hood scoop, unless it's flapping noticeably!

Check the alignment!! I've seen cars driving on wheels that look like they're literally about to fall off...

I can tell you that the WRX is smooth like butter up past 130... you shouldn't be getting any shaking. Just in case... you ARE accounting for any crosswinds, right? Those'll push you around good and proper!

Probably wheel balance is off - but it could be other things. The car should be smooooth up to at least 110!

It sounds like the wheels being out of balance. My last car had that problem right before I sold it. Anything about 50 mph and the car would start to shake and get worse as you increased speed.

definately return it to the dealer, that is not right. Mine is rock solid all the way to 140 bone stock. yours should be too. it could be alignment or balance or suspension issues, but it aint right. good luck

Thanks guys. I'll take it in tomorrow. I'm sure you're right, and its the balancing.

let me know as i have the same chattering from time to time at high speeds. Was told it was the camber of the wheels and that i might want to adjust it a degree or two... havn't explored that yet, i'm curious what your dealer will say though.

Apologized and told me to bring it in - of course they don't have service on Saturdays, so I'll have to bring it in on Wednesday. In the mean time I will avoid driving it I guess so that I don't wear the tyres down unevenly.

Cheers

also.. you may want to change your car description. If it's only a week old and you got it from a dealer in the US it ain't a 2001.
